We’re announcing an update to the AHRC Follow on Fund. As part of our wider responsive mode transition, we will be pausing the Follow on Funding scheme after the current round (Round 4) closes. This will allow us to commence a review of the scheme. This review is the next step in our transformation of the responsive mode scheme, following the introduction of our Catalyst and Curiosity funding opportunities, and the pilot of our Mission awards. More information about changes to our responsive mode funding opportunities: https://orlo.uk/96dem To enable those who would like to apply to the AHRC Follow on Fund for impact and engagement to have more time prior to the pause, we have extended the Round 4 deadline by three weeks. The revised application deadline is now 18 July 2024: https://orlo.uk/6Fbh7

🚨Why the Dutch government needs a long-term vision, now more than ever!🚨 👀 #ShortTermFixes Aren't Solutions Recent headlines reveal a concerning trend: the Dutch government is eyeing the National Growth Fund to cover budget shortfalls. This isn't just a one-time issue; it's a symptom of a much larger problem—lack of a cohesive, long-term vision. 🕸 #BureaucraticWeb The Growth Fund is at risk of becoming another bureaucratic black hole, stalling innovation and change. We need to cut the red tape and unleash its true potential! 💶 #PoliticalGrabBag Labeling the Growth Fund as a 'grab fund' is a dangerous precedent. We've been down this road before, and it's a dead-end. Let's not repeat history! #ProblemSolvingMatters The fund has the potential to be a game-changer by investing in innovative solutions for societal challenges. Let's not squander this opportunity for short-term gains! 🌍 #GlobalRace While countries like Germany and France are making strides with clear investment strategies, we're lagging behind. Time to step up our game! 🔮 #FutureFocusedGovernance What we need is a 'Council for Future-Proof Governance,' a body of experts and visionaries who can steer us towards a sustainable future. 🛡 #SafeguardingTheFuture To maintain its integrity, this council should operate independently of political cycles and have a dedicated budget. 🌟 #TheWayForward It's time to break free from the politics of the past and embrace transformational leadership. Let's focus on what really matters: the well-being and prosperity of society. 📣 #TimeForChange Enough is enough. Politicians, it's time to step up and do what you're elected to do. Let's bring back vision and soul into governance! 🔗

Although yesterday's Ministerial announcement on the establishment of the new National Wealth Fund was an impressive bit of sleeves-rolled-up-and-getting-on-with-the-job positioning by the new government, I suspect it will be quite some time before the new Fund is properly operational in the market. It's pretty straightforward to make an initial announcement with a big number attached. And it's relatively easy to create *something* you can call a National Wealth Fund from within existing infrastructure, using the BBB or UKIB, for example. The creation of a genuinely new investment vehicle with its own legal mandate, investment strategy, personnel, governance, deal pipeline etc etc is not an overnight task though. And if primary legislation is required even a government with a massive majority that sees this as a priority for Parliamentary time is going to have to acknowledge it can't happen overnight. To their credit the NWF Taskforce (link to their report below) are clear about the complexity of the task. It's all achievable (as other jurisdictions have proven) and new Ministers will, no doubt, have been thinking about some of the key design and mandate questions while in Opposition and so be able to give officials a clear steer. But it's nonetheless going to be a big lift for HMT, DBT et al to get the Fund, first, fully operational and, second, having a tangible impact in the priority sectors in a period shorter than a few years. In the meantime there's plenty of private capital sitting on the sidelines (£300bn in cash ISAs, for example) that could be mobilised pretty quickly for productive investment in the equity and debt of growing UK businesses (including those in the green economy) if we can just get the outstanding policy reforms over the line. One final aside on the NWF: am I right that the Taskforce seems to be suggesting that NWF executives might be remunerated using some form of carried instrument? (I assume that that's what is meant by "clear alignment of interests to ensure that remuneration is intrinsically linked to the success of investments").

FACT ! ….. The construction industry has a skills and labour shortage, an ageing workforce and it’s not getting any better. Every day people with Neurodiverse conditions are held back, overlooked or don’t even have the confidence to come forward In the first place because the industry doesn’t understand. Unless construction leaders like me step forward to change this we will continue to miss out on the opportunity that this knowledge presents our industry. It’s time for Interclass to play our part in doing something about it, because unless we step forward nothing will change. Please follow Interclass to learn more about Neurodiversity ⏬️ and how you can obtain free training for you and your construction business. I cannot wait to see the impact that this training will have on Construction and inclusivity for our industry and am overwhelmingly proud of Interclass and most importantly Sara Barnes who has worked tirelessly to make this happen. Who’s willing to join us to make a positive change? #teaminterclass-industry pioneers #changingthefaceofconstruction
The lack of awareness and stigma around neurodiverse workers has seen people leave the construction industry due the absence of support or understanding. Thanks to the CITB Industry Impact Fund, Interclass PLC, has been awarded £178,763 to deliver neurodiversity training. Over 400 people will be trained, with 30% from SME/micro businesses. Seriously couldn’t think of a better way to use funding. I remember my so having to sit the CSCS card examine and couldn’t sit long enough to read the questions. The practical application of an ADHD skill set would have been phenomenal for him in the construction industry but the one size fits all model is a barrier. Well done CITB #neurodiversity #neurodivergence #citb #constructionindistry #furthereducation #tlevels
