This is an interesting analysis. The role of public art in the fabric of a place is an important part of urban design. When I think of the works that have affected me the most they are place driven and site specific.
There is no one size fits all when it comes to developing a public art approach. We mapped the public art provision in #Vancouver, #Melbourne and #Dublin to show how different approaches to public art can achieve specific outcomes. 📍 Vancouver - Venues and their outdoor spaces act as points of congregation, making the area an obvious destination point. This role is enhanced and defined through public art interventions. 📍 Melbourne - Artworks are clustered along the length of Swanston Street, the main retail street, to encourage and guide visitors through the city centre. 📍 Dublin - A cluster is situated near key institutions including the National Gallery of Ireland and National Museum of Ireland in Merrion Square Park. The Park also features an outdoor arts trail enhancing the destination. Our view is that cities must take a coordinated rather than ad hoc approach to embedding public art. By studying these high-level approaches, cities can learn how to effectively create vibrant public spaces that speak to their unique character, attracting visitors and supporting local economies. For the Architectural Record, Andrew Holder of the LADG | LA Design Group, Inc. describes his office's exhibition design for Eternal Medium: Seeing the World in Stone at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and asks, "As a model for architecture, can the white cube be repurposed to center artifacts, be earnest, include things that originate outside the exhibition, and allow those things to represent themselves as entities separate from the context of the institution? Further, can it do this while retaining something of its power?" https://lnkd.in/eTkuGgyM

Art Brutal
2wWhy should Art be classified as clean and without problems, just mere decoration for the joy and rejoicing of unclassified interiors, when the reality of the battered and disturbed events that can be created are the order of the day. That Art to please without problems the stupid admirer of emptiness and illusion that only tickles the lover of luxury, the deceived believer of an ephemeral reality that he keeps, hanging it for his own glories as a trophy within interiors and interests, superimposed attitudes that are not from the realm of never-never. The creation in excess and the annihilation of chaos and its precedents. I am not pretentious in the right, rejoicing in the imperfect, it is what there is without escaping from it. Let's assume and follow the example.
