The gym workplace? We know from our research that exercise is one of a number of factors that have an impact on cognitive performance. I've long held the view that exercise should be intertwined with work on the office floor in a typical office workers day. But I thought this article in the The New York Times was interesting. Gym companies are incorporating workplaces alongside creche, cafes, spa's and other support facilities. Imagine working for a company where exercise was an integral part of the culture? Interesting concept and very close to the heart of our Cognitive Wellbeing and Performance programme. Would welcome thoughts... Fitness clubs have transcended traditional roles and are now pioneering spaces for socialization, relaxation, and professional work. High-end gym franchises like Life Time Inc. and Equinox are redefining what it means to be a fitness center by offering much more than state-of-the-art workout equipment and classes. 💡Gyms are becoming 'third places'—spaces other than home or work where people can relax and socialize. They serve as co-working spaces, networking opportunities, and childcare facilities. 📈 The boundaries of what gyms can offer are expanding. What started as places to exercise are now pivotal lifestyle hubs catering to all aspects of modern life. #WorkLifeBalance #RemoteWork #FutureofWork

Wellness Consultant @ HSS | Engaging Workers | Fitness & Wellbeing Solutions for Public Sector, Manufacturing, & Construction
This week Bretta Gonzales and Colton Lusty co-led an internal staff enrichment discussion on exercise programming. Here are 2 takeaways I had that could be applied to other industries too! 1) People tend to overestimate and stretch the truth about their own abilities because they think it's what the professional wants to hear. For example, someone that hasn't exercised in 6 months says, "I want an exercise plan for 5 days/week." A seasoned fitness professional may decide to start them with 2 days/week instead. I looked into this principle more and in a 2019 survey, 60-80% of Americans admit to lying to their doctors about relevant health information. "...most said they didn't want the doctor to judge or lecture them. More than half said they felt embarrassed." (PMID: 30692114) I'm not comparing our fitness center staff to medical doctors; however, there are similarities in how they ask lifestyle questions to improve overall wellbeing. Asking the right questions could lead to better understanding and an action plan that meets the individual's readiness levels for change. 2) Stick to the basics and give the exercise program time to work. It's hard to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan if the exercise plan changes every week. It was a great refresher for our on-site employee fitness center team! #employeefitness #behaviorchange #staffenrichment #fitnessprofessionals #workplacewellness

Outdoor gyms are nowadays so much more than just places to workout. ☀ For example, Omnigym exercise areas are proven to be following: 💡they have provided social meeting points for neighborhoods, 💡increased the community safety feeling as there is some meaningful activity in the area 💡as well as improved the attractiveness of areas that did not offer anything before and therefore offering a competitive advantage for municipalities. Read more about the above and other thoughts of working at Omnigym on our CEO Kirsti's post. 🤗
If you don't make time for your wellness, you'll be forced to make time for your illness ❗ That’s been a great reminder as we all have been made aware that staying active throughout life is important. But when aging … well who would have thought that we all are at some point in life 😂, it starts to be crucial. Especially regular muscle workouts outdoors offer incredible benefits that can enhance quality of life: 😁 from maintaining strength that is needed for daily activities, 😁 bone health reducing osteoporosis 😁 enhancing metabolic boost aiding in weight management 😁 to even improving mental well-being. End of May we hosted a #GlobalStrengthDay (see picture) at our outdoor gyms across Europe to raise the awareness that doing strength training can be easy and is for all age groups and all fitness levels not to forget that it can be affordable for all at the many outdoor gyms out there open 24/7 365 days a year at any weather. These outdoor gyms have proven to be much more than JUST #outdoorgyms : 💡they have provided social meeting points for neighborhoods, 💡increased the community safety feeling as there is some meaningful activity in the area 💡as well as improved the attractiveness of areas which did not offer anything before and therefore offering a competitive advantage for municipalities. There are already well over 400 Omnigym free outdoor gyms out there to get an easy start into maintaining or improving your strength - any time and at any weather if one dares. Want to find your nearest gym? See here at the map 👇 …and note: we are on our mission to bring these even to many many more locations in order to help recreational and attractive neighborhood development as well as increasing physical activity and wellbeing around us – equally for all. That is what my day job is all about.
