Texas Department Of Criminal Justice’s Post

While the Smokehouse Creek Wildfire ravaged the Texas Panhandle earlier this year, first responders worked quickly to contain what is considered to be the largest wildfire in the state’s history. As emergency crews battled the fire, residents began mobilizing to keep their neighbors, families, homes, and livelihoods from burning. Correctional Officer Guy Pigg, who serves at the Clements Unit, was one of many who sprang into action to help his community as news of flames were encroaching on the towns of Borger and Fritch, Texas. Officer Pigg aided in the efforts to plow a fire break around 10 homes, businesses, and a natural gas plant. Due to his bravery and courageous act to protect his fellow Texans, many homes and lives were saved. For his heroic actions, Officer Pigg received the agency’s Valor Award alongside Officers Russell Epperson (Allred Unit) and Cody Cabler (Roach Unit). All three were recognized by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice and Chairman Eric Nichols. #TDCJ #valoraward #employeespotlight #recognition
