Here’s how to navigate this important stage: Presenting the Offer: Detailed Proposal: Prepare a comprehensive offer letter that includes salary, benefits, job title, start date, and any other relevant terms. Make sure all details are clear and precise to avoid any misunderstandings. Salary and Benefits: Clearly outline the salary package, including base salary, bonuses, and any other financial incentives. Also, highlight the benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and any additional perks. I have seen enough posts on Linkedin that ask you to refrain from answering this question but let me tell you choosing not to answer this how you annoy an HR . No you aren't judged on your current salary! this just helps us understand whether you would fit in the budget or not. 2.What is your expected salary? Showcase your research! Mention a range based on industry standards and your expertise. Highlight how your contributions will justify the investment. Also remember the ideal range for hike is 30%-40% (subject to change based on role and experience). 3.Why are you looking to leave your current job? Keep it positive! Talk about seeking new challenges, growth opportunities, and aligning with the company's mission. Emphasize how this move aligns better with your goals. 4.What is your notice period? Share your notice period and express your willingness to ensure a smooth transition. Highlight your professionalism and dedication to completing your responsibilities. Also, be honest about it, as failing to do so might result in the offer letter being retracted. 5.Reason for leaving your current company? Be honest but tactful. Mention the desire for personal and professional growth, or pursuing a role that aligns better with your skills and passions. 6.Why are you not joining the company you have an offer from? How NOT to make a job offer: I have a client who was approached by HR after finishing a cycle of interviews. They asked him how much he wanted to make. They said they’re new to the area and don’t know the market, but they want to make him an exciting offer Knowing that was a garbage argument, my client said: if you’d like to make me an offer, please make me an offer. So they sent over a compensation package. It was insultingly low. Naturally, we countered. HR came back with: “Oh that wasn’t our formal offer! We just wanted to show you your salary breakdown so you know where we stand.” Wait. What? So you’re making an offer…without making an offer?? Was this some kind of weird test? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT EXCHANGE? It’s this kind of nonsense from HR that drives good talent far, far away.
