On 19 June the annual meeting of the global PE100+ Association+ Advisory Steering Committee was organised in Edinburgh (UK). Agenda included ao a live demonstration of trenchless installation technology and update on the revised European Drinking Water Directive by Peter Sejersen. This 25th meeting anniversary was an ideal opportunity to exchange latest developments and experiences with plastic pipes made from PE100 material. Plastics Pipe Institute PIPA SAPPMA Plastics Europe

Plastics Europe, alongside industry leaders from polymer producers to recyclers, welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to tackle plastic pellet loss. While we endorse the reduction of plastic pellet loss and the EU’s 2030 microplastic targets, we believe certain aspects of the proposal and recent amendments need refinement for effective, balanced, and practical legislation. Here are our key recommendations: 🔹Binding, mandatory, and harmonised legislation to prevent pellet loss for all pellet handlers. 🔹Elimination of all pellet losses via a management approach, underpinned by independent auditing and certification. 🔹 Include maritime shipping in the pellet loss prevention framework, aligned with IMO guidelines. 🔹 Establish legislative minimum performance standards for pellet packaging. 👉 Read our full position paper here: https://lnkd.in/eubEepf4 European Plastics Converters | EuPC, Plastics Recyclers Europe, ECTA - European Chemical Transport Association, EUMEPS, Polyolefin Circular Economy Platform (PCEP), British Plastics Federation

Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging and regulation of plastic products has broad support among several states. Although only a handful of states have enacted bottle bills and EPR legislation; the impact on manufacturing and the supply of quality grade PCR resins is already a concern, not to mention rising PCR commodity pricing making it harder to source supply. Find out what states have introduced bills in 2024 and the proposed legislative impacts. #manufacturingplastics #ERPlegislation #propertytax Bills introduced in 2024 focus on EPR, bans (resource-recycling.com)

Day 1 ICM AG #IERC24 was truly inspiring! The keynotes from Mattia Pellegrini, Jonas Dreger and Kunal Sinha set the tone for the day, and I was thrilled to present the findings of the report developed by dss+ (Arthur Haarman, Sofia Fedato and Aubrey Holt) with BSEF. The good news is that you can now see a short summary of the report in the video released today, following the link below. The session I was in focused on the future of #plasticrecycling, and I was fascinated to hear from Tom Caris about Coolrec's success in integrating post-consumer plastics into new products like toys (Playmobil) and fridges (Electrolux Group). Jelle Saint-Germain also presented the latest technological developments to remove #BFR from plastic waste streams. But, the potential risks associated with policy discussions in Europe that might hinder the development of a true circular market for plastics recyclates is a concern shared by many industry players. A #risk-based approach should be adopted to prioritize the measures that need to be taken to ensure we remain focused on what really matters. Overall, more cooperation along the supply chain is needed, and a strategic vision needs to be taken into account, even to plan the necessary investments in collection and recycling infrastructures. The access to market requirements and conditions needs to be the same, irrespective of the country where products were manufactured or the type of materials used (virgin vs post-consumer). #Transboundary movement of plastic waste, realistic limits for #UTC, and enforcement of #treatmentstandards are a MUST. Check out the video below for a short summary of the report: https://lnkd.in/dnpknmCz

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (#WEEE), also known as e-waste, contains a wide range of materials. #Plastics account for about 25% of WEEE. Improving the state of WEEE plastics recycling in Europe requires a comprehensive approach that addresses collection, sorting, regulatory frameworks, and technological advancements. 📰 dss⁺ completed a study commissioned by BSEF, the International Bromine Council, which provides key insights into recent developments in the composition of WEEE #plastics, brominated flame-retardant content, regulatory context and technological advances ... Manager, Sustainability @ dss+ | ESG | Circularity | Developing and implementing transformational projects that deliver sustainable impact
India is the world's 3rd largest generator of waste electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste/WEEE), but only collects a fraction of this for proper recycling. Informal and improper processing of e-waste often releases harmful toxins, including brominated flame retardants (BFRs) found in WEEE plastics. A circular economy approach can be the catalyst for solving the growing challenge of e-waste management in India. Since plastics make about a quarter of all e-waste, applying this to WEEE plastics is critical. #Ewaste #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #India

💧 Today, on World Water Day, we're happy to share that Colep Packaging Portugal has been involved in the Operation Clean Sweep® Europe (OCS) program since 2021. This international initiative within the plastics industry aims to prevent the loss of plastic polymers (such as pellets, flakes, and powders) during handling at different stages of the production chain and to prevent their release into the environment. As a result, we've been implementing effective strategies to reduce or eliminate the presence of polymers in our stormwater network, including proactive measures to manage polymer spills. Since the beginning of this initiative, approximately 0.6 tons of polymers have not reached the water resources in our implementation area, thus preventing them from reaching rivers and oceans. 🔎 Learn more about the program at https://opcleansweep.org/ 🌍🌊 #WorldWaterDay #OperationCleanSweep #Sustainability #ColepPackagingPortugal
