It’s nice to see commercial MEO added to the mix of capabilities the DoD can leverage to create a resilient, multi-band, multi-orbit SATCOM Enterprise. Will the DoD need new (possibly proprietary) terminals to use it, though? It’s an honest question: I’ve not seen the CLINs.

This is a worthwhile read in Global Defence Technology Magazine talking about the role of mesh(ed) networks in the future of battlefield communications. The integration of mesh networks with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites is certainly the future, allowing connectivity with points anywhere in the world. However, I would argue that IEEE mmWave technology is superior to 3GPP when it comes to connecting troops on the ground. IEEE 5G mmWave networks are self-healing, which means if a node is out of range or otherwise unavailable, the network re-configures to maintain full connectivity by another node stepping in to complete the circuit. https://bit.ly/3STWetD

Mini-Circuits’ ZVA-44703LN+ is a coaxial wideband and low noise amplifier operating from 44 GHz to 70 GHz. The model operates over a positive supply range of +10 to +15 V, allowing users to choose their desired operating voltage. Internal DCDC conversion circuitry maintains constant efficiency over the full input voltage range. The amplifier incorporates several DC protection features such as over-voltage, reverse voltage, and in-rush current protection to protect from damage in case of unexpected spikes in voltage during operation. The high frequency operation combined with high gain and low noise figure makes this amplifier an ideal choice for SATCOM applications and 5G testing in millimeter wave bands. Today at European Defence Agency I had a Präsentation about "End-to-End Communication Solutions for critical and defense capabilities" at the "Space for Defence Industry Workshop". I showed how the individual Domains can be integrated by satellite communication solutions. I present our view on relevant mission szenarios and how the individual technologies can enable defence and security capabilities. In this context Lasercom can make System resilient and robust as a redundancy to RF connections. Adopting the software-defined-defence paradigm with the Intention to connecting the diffrent assets, multi-domain-operations can be enable through lasercom and last-mile-connections through smart antennas with intelligent beamforming in agile networks with routig and switching solutions. Also I commited myself for commercial friedly IPR and procurement rules to stimulate the technology development and competetivness of the defence and space Industry. Also there should be a dialogue for standards with the industry and programms to adress applications and validation of technologies. #TeamTesat #EDA #Space #Innovation

If you haven't heard of Filtronic yet, you are behind the times. Here is the latest interview where I visit with Walter Magiera about what sets them apart in RF Innovation. If you depend on RF for your communications in #publicsafety, #telecom, private networks, #aerospace, and #defense, you need to look to Filtronic for your interference management, and tower top amplifiers in the 700/800 band. Need a custom solution with tight tolerances? They have you covered. You will discover why some of the largest OEMs in the RF communications industry depend on Filtronic. #radiotechnicians #RFcommunications

It’s great to see Clare Hopper and her team at CSCO continuing to find innovative ways to secure multi-band / multi-orbit / multi-network SATCOM capabiliites for America’s warfighters. Path diversity is critical to C2 resilience, day-to-day, but especially in a CDO environment. This drives many practical questions, not the least of which is, “With how many bespoke, vendor-specific terminals do we expect an organization to deploy?” And how do we flow information across commercial and DoD networks? And, most importantly, how do we make that seamless and transparent to the warfighter? These aren’t new questions, and securing access to new and emerging capabilities is part of the larger solution, but let’s not forget the criticality of terminals, ground segment, ground networks (including cross-links), and a robust strategy (and USG management of the same) to marry them all together. Great article. #EnterpriseSATCOM https://lnkd.in/gpNaq7BT
