So my cousin Dave Eby and I have been talking "dutchified" together for years! It comes very naturally having grown up as Mennonite farm boys in Ephrata, Lancaster County. After years of pondering this, we finally decided to share our "talents" with the general public. Enjoy! But be warned, after watching you're gonna want to eat a whoopie pie! 😀 https://lnkd.in/eYxxZCHr

Last week’s tragedy of the Dali’s allision with the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore illuminates how quickly life can change. From a container ship proceeding on its route providing routine transportation services, to the unfortunate loss of souls and collapse of primary infrastructure, nothing in life is truly static. The accident also underscores the critical relationship of the #maritime industry to our society. Maritime security reaches every aspect of our lives, from #nationalsecurity (the inability for key Ready Reserve Force assets to leave port), to economic security and the transportation of vital goods and energy. Even food security is impacted with agricultural equipment losing its direct outlet to markets. As we reflect on identifying causes and lessons learned from this tragedy, let’s also recognize how dependent we are on our maritime transportation system and work towards supporting it! Perhaps that is our Phoenix rising from the ashes! - Carleen Lyden Walker, CEO & Co-Founder, NAMEPA ➡️ https://ow.ly/vnuq50R9HBb (📷: Courtesy FBI Baltimore Field Office) #BaltimoreBridge #BridgeCollapse

Never swim in a quarry ✋ Swimming in quarries poses a multitude of dangers that should not be underestimated. These water-filled pits, while picturesque, conceal numerous hazards beneath their surface. Submerged machinery and equipment, unstable terrain, and sudden drop-offs can catch swimmers unaware, leading to accidents, injuries and possible fatalities. Cold water shock, strong underwater currents, and limited visibility further increase the risk, making it difficult to navigate safely. Additionally, stagnant water in quarries may harbor harmful bacteria, algae, and pollutants, posing health threats to those who come into contact with it. Let's not forget the legal ramifications. Trespassing in quarries or ignoring warning signs isn't just risky—it's illegal. Violators may face hefty fines or even criminal charges.
MPA is supporting the #BeWaterAware campaign being run by the Fire and Rescue Service in April. The campaign highlights what people should do if they see someone in trouble in the water and helps raise public awareness about how to stay safe around water. With 60% of accidental #drownings occurring at inland waters such as rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, and other water filled voids such as #quarry lakes, it is important that the public understand how to keep themselves safe whilst enjoying the countryside. Statistics show that 40% of people who accidentally drown never intended to enter the water, they may have been engaged in activities close to the water’s edge or a bank such as dog walking, running or simply messing around. Please share the resources and safety messages.
