Sometimes we can lose sight of the fact that institutions are not just a pool of assets but organizations that have an end beneficiary, whether that is a retiree, a student or a grantee. Elmer Huh of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust does a great job of reminding us of that in this five questions feature. Check out his story and other great insights below!

I don't believe I have ever posted here on Linked In before, but this is something near and dear to my heart. Last year I had the unreal privilege to work on a film directed by a filmmaker who's movies were a huge part of my childhood and had a profound influence on the beginning of my love and appreciation for the horror genre and film in general (you could call his films "horror lite" I suppose). Around that same time I joined the board of the Vermont Production Collective because I wanted to make tangible improvements for something I care deeply about here where I live. I want there to be more opportunities, like I had last year, for filmmakers all over the state and for the economy around film to grow and thrive. Vermont has not historically been friendly to film productions. There is no official "film office" or a person to answer the phones for out of state folks wanting to film here. No current database of crew and locations. We have no tax incentives that act as a lure to attract large studios here (which is why they instead would fly their cast to Romania to film a show set in "Vermont") who then spend tens of thousands of indirect dollars to boost up the local economy and businesses in our towns. A big part of what VPC's efforts are focused on is filling that gap. Creating and maintaining that database, ensuring someone is answering the phones. Ensuring that out of state productions can find AND HIRE film industry professionals living in the state. We also have a keen desire to foster and grow our community that is already here. Earlier this week we launched a fundraiser to help bolster our efforts for 2024. Collaborations with local film festivals. Sponsored industry meet ups. Ensuring that the filmmakers and creative industry folks who want to stay here have resources so that they can. This is going to be a big year of transition and growth for film in the state. Working with legislators to lay pathways to create jobs, grow the creative economy and ensure that Vermont has a seat at the table when it comes to the movie making industry. I am truly excited about what the future brings, but like with everything, money is a factor. $1, $10, $100. Literally every dollar earned through this effort matters and makes a difference. Please take a minute to check it out or share with a friend. It would mean a lot. https://lnkd.in/gSt2p3YU
To date, VPC hasn't made a fundraising appeal, but this year we've realized we can't do it alone. We have one month to raise $3,000 to make our programs possible for another year. This includes recruiting professional actors and cover event costs for our Screenplay Incubator table read, supporting our regional meet-ups, and our daily work of supporting the film and media community across our great little state. Can we count on your to help us continue to be stronger together and to create a robust creative industry in Vermont? Please show your support for the arts and film in Vermont by making a contribution to VPC today. https://lnkd.in/duZwCCs2

What can you say that your donors and investors will remember? Because when you pitch someone, it’s an opportunity to have them spread the word about your film to all their friends. What you need is a "sticky story." In our next Film Funding Guidance Class for our fiscally sponsored filmmaker we'll discuss what key elements you need to include to make your story "stick" in investors and donor's minds that will help them share your story with others. From the Heart Fiscal Sponsorship = Guidance, Support, and Tax Deductible Donations to help filmmakers fund their films. https://buff.ly/3vbhH7Z

Our creative investigations are a deep dive into themes that affect our OKC community. Through multidisciplinary art and performance, we seek to answer the question how: How are we connected to the land beneath us and the human experience that shapes our current, shared reality? How can we get help to members of our Veteran community? While no two creative investigations follow a set of particular rules, they allow us to use the tremendous gifts of local artists to provide insight to particular topics affecting our beautiful city. We’re raising $2,500 to continue telling OKC’s stories and lifting up artists of all disciplines. Gifts are being matched dollar for dollar–doubling the impact of your gift. Will you support our ongoing efforts today with a gift of any size to our “You Make OKC Beautiful” campaign? Give now: https://lnkd.in/efei6Y_5

The valuation of specialist assets for financial accounts can typically include a variety or properties from schools, leisure centres, museums, hospitals, police stations, and fire stations to name just a few. These are usually owned and operated by public sector authorities, or charitable operators under various contractual arrangements. The valuation of specialist assets are therefore often required for financial accounts, which is a complex and specialised task that requires the application of appropriate methods and assumptions, taking into account the physical, functional, and economic characteristics of each property. John Tyas has written an informative article on the valuation of specialist assets, which can be found in full on our website. https://lnkd.in/eBbUSUsP

[Update] Its been awhile - hope you all are doing well. Here is what I've been up to since the update. 1: Looking for Business Grant(s) - not loans - to upgrade hardware, and home business area. 2: Project 01 with Error 4444 is 1990s Run And Kill and will be released soon. 3: Project 03 with Error 4444 is 1990s Red To Kill and will be completed within 2 weeks. This is the first film where I have done artifact/damage cleanup plus color restoration. Before and After samples will be shared once we get permission to do so. Private Non Commercial Projects: 1: 16mm ABC tv's Beatles at Shea Stadium including commercial breaks. (Black and White copy print) - it is rumored that a few songs were replaced with studio tracks due to technical difficulties. If this is found true, we hope to restore the original live line feed to marry the performance with the audio (which we have already in house). 2: 16mm Italian Produced 1978s animated Pinocchio (Full color) - researching copyrights in the US for this one and if the cleanup goes well may pursue marketing this restoration. Being Veterans Day weekend, if you are in the New England area please consider donating to the Home Base project. Link here:
