REDESIGNING ENERGY FOR BETTER LIVES AND A HEALTHY PLANET The World Energy Congress is the world’s longest-established energy event, having shaped the global energy agenda for a century. In today’s unpredictable, turbulent and fast-shifting world, the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam will be the most important energy convening of the next decade.  The only global energy event convening 200+ C-suite speakers and 70+ Ministers, alongside 7,000+ international energy stakeholders, the Congress enables the highest levels of government-to-government dialogue and unites businesses and communities of all shapes and sizes.

💡 “We are here to get on with the job of redesigning energy for people and planet." So said the World Energy Council’s Angela Wilkinson during the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam last month. 🌍 With over 350 C-suite speakers, 70+ Ministers, 15 city mayors and nearly 4,000 energy stakeholders in attendance, the Congress was buzzing with energy, discussions and decision-making for a sustainable future. Over 60 impactful sessions took place while 90+ exhibitors showcased the latest innovations in energy technology. 💬 For #SET, day 2 was particularly exciting as our director, Pia Dorfinger, moderated the panel discussion, "𝘐𝘕𝘕𝘖𝘝𝘈𝘛𝘌 𝘛𝘖 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘝𝘈𝘛𝘌: 𝘊𝘜𝘓𝘛𝘐𝘝𝘈𝘛𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘌𝘕𝘛𝘙𝘌𝘗𝘙𝘌𝘕𝘌𝘜𝘙𝘚𝘏𝘐𝘗". Elia Transmission Belgium once again brought representatives from across the energy sector together for its annual stakeholder event last night, but this year’s gathering came with a twist: political leaders were invited to take part in its Great National Energy Debate. Later this year, Belgium will go to the polls for regional, federal and European elections. ETB therefore launched its memorandum yesterday, which includes recommendations for parties as they shape their energy policies. The politicians were then asked to discuss their approach to the four most pressing energy challenges the country is facing: - establishing a low-carbon economy and society by 2050; - ensuring access to decarbonised energy at competitive prices by developing the high-voltage grid; - making it easier for everyone to easily contribute to an affordable energy transition; - guaranteeing Belgium's digital sovereignty.   The video below gives you a flavour of the discussions held during the evening; it features: Tom Ongena (Open VLD), Georges-Louis Bouchez (MR), Robrecht Bothuyne (CD&V), @Malik Ben Achour (PS), Kim Buyst (Groen), François De Smet (DéFi), Kris Verduyckt (Vooruit), @Jean-Marc Nollet (Ecolo), Bert Wollants (N-VA) and Yvan Verougstraete (Les Engag��s). As the video below shows, during this year's annual stakeholder event, Elia Transmission Belgium had the privilege of hearing from three distinguished experts on the future of energy in Belgium.   Danielle Devogelaer, who used to work as an energy expert at the Federal Planning Bureau, brought invaluable insights to the table, stressing the critical need for timely investments and a clear long-term vision to navigate the energy landscape. She also emphasised the Belgian government's responsibility to create societal support for the energy transition.   Joannes Laveyne added depth to the conversation by highlighting the indispensable role of high-quality infrastructure in facilitating the smooth transition towards sustainable energy solutions and the need for flexibility in energy consumption. Joannes is a researcher at the Electrical Energy Laboratory of Ghent University and an therefore brings an important perspective to energy debates.   Olivier Douxchamps, the plant manager of the Knauf Insulation plant in Visé (Wallonia), provided a practical perspective, emphasising the urgent need for decarbonisation and the infrastructure investments required to support it. He emphasised the need for a stable electrical grid to prevent the risk of shutdowns and stressed the importance of ensuring competitive pricing compared to neighbouring countries.   Together, these experts provided a comprehensive view of the challenges and opportunities being faced by the energy sector. Their insights underscored the importance of collective action and strategic investment, aligning with the principles of the European Green Deal.
