🥳Forces Wives Challenge 5th Anniversary! 🥳 FWC was only ever supposed to be one challenge ... admittedly it was a big one - to climb the world's highest volcano, Ojos del Salado, standing at 6893m in the Atacama Desert! But 5 years later we are still going strong with 1500 members across the Globe and when we embark on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks later this month, it will be our 50th challenge! These milestones present great opportunities to reflect and take stock. Look back at all we have achieved and make exciting plans for the future. 2024/25 looks set to be a busy time as we focus on 3 key areas: 1. Reach - We recognise that there are still many barriers preventing members taking part in FWC events, including lack of childcare, location, time and confidence. Our 'Reach' events will focus on offering a range of low-level, one day, local events to reduce these barriers and boost inclusivity. 2. Adventure Academy - This exciting new initiative aims to upskill and train our community, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency for FWC. The professional qualifications offered by the Academy will be complemented by a bespoke leadership development programme held at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). This combination of skills, knowledge and experience will develop a succession of female leaders able to excel in dynamic and challenging environments, capabilities not only valued by our community but highly prized in today’s commercial sector. 3. Research - 2024 will also see the start of our research project in collaboration with the Veterans and Families Research Institute (Anglia Ruskin University), conducted on two journeys in Sweden; wilderness canoeing down the Härken River and nordic skiing in the sub-Arctic. The research will investigate themes around military spouse identity, psychological safety and belonging, in a challenging wilderness environment. None of this would be possible without the support of our dedicated sponsors and volunteers. It was fantastic that so many could join us at our celebration event in London so we could thank them in person. Excited to see where the next 5 years take us - watch this space!
