"How much will that cost? Ball park? Just roughly?" I get asked this quite often as a brickwork contractor. I cannot answer that. If you send me the working drawings and I will give you exact numbers and break down of what the price includes. Anything else is guess work and I am not in the business of throwing random numbers about. Clarity is king. Every job comes with its own unique specification. Whats the pointing? What are the materials? Is it labour only or supply and fit? Whats the access like? Forklift? How do you operate as company? What are the payment terms? Whats the build shedule? What size gang do you need? So many factors. Random guess work only leaves both parties in a bad position. Do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments. Keen for feed back on this one. Managing Director at Avatar Drones & Media: Offering Video, Photo, Drone, Editing, and Social Media Managment
Left a comment on this post but going to post it in a quoted re-share as I think it's important. My response: 1000% agree. It's the same in the media and video industry. "How much will it cost" - well, this depends on what kit you want, how many hours you need me for, the deliverables [photos, video edits, instagram reels], how many hours editing it will take for all the deliverables (which are extra hours outside the on-location filming), how far away is the project, do we need to rent any additional kit to achieve your desired results, is the location near an airport and do we need to spend (usually around 6) extra hours (if not more) getting permissions to fly the drone, etc, etc. Will I do that for free? Unfortunately not, sorry. Do you want ownership rights to all the content, do we need to store all the original files in-house on additional harddrives for you 'incase you want to use it in the future' or would you prefer to purchase your own in-house harddrive, the list goes on and on. All essential questions we can cover over a zoom call, to go away and price up an estimate ✍️ I'm sure it's the same for every industry out there - but in this instance filming is very very similar to construction. The 'materials' are the deliverables, hours, and kit required. If you give a whole cost with a breakdown of options and prices, prospective clients can get confused, if you ask a budget they sometimes get annoyed. "What if you charge me more?" Our rates will never change depending on the company. Big company or small. But the brief and what you need, does. We're about providing value and producing fantastic results, and it's essential we have the info we need to achieve this. Would love to hear the opinions of my network on this one, too! Keen for feedback and thoughts.

Workforce Wednesday: Last week we talked about Scaffold Builders and the week before Mason Tenders. Some Mason Tenders can do it all, but many contractors have folks that specialize in washdown of the walls after the masons are finished. For those in masonry, you know that having someone that has a good attention to detail is important and how not using the right products or washdown equipment correctly can easily ruin the beautiful work that your masons just completed. The team members that wash our walls take pride in putting the finishing touches on our walls. If you're interested in starting your career in masonry, please reach out to us and we can help you create the foundation for a great career in the world of masonry! "I wish we had got you guys involved earlier" - this was a comment I received recently from a business owner who recently built a 7000m2 manufacturing warehouse. ❌ In this particular case the structural engineer had specified a generic dowel basket for a highly trafficked 175mm thick floor. When we were engaged later in the project we advised the engineer and client to #armour all the #joints to future proof the building and prevent having to replace the joints in a few years time. At this stage of the build where the budget had pushed out and out, the owner opted to armour the doorways and the joints at the ends of the building where the majority of forklift and truck traffic would occur. What was an obvious solution and would have been a minor cost comparative to the total build cost ended in the client being forced to only armour 50% of their joints, resulting in the above comment. The building owner mentioned, had the armour joints been specified from the start they wouldn't have thought twice about the cost, but as they were a variation they weren't able to get the world class floor they desired. A general rule of thumb - if the slab is going to have forklifts, trucks, & MHE trafficking the joints you should #armour them to future proof the asset. If you are a structural engineer, construction professional, or future asset owner reach out to discuss your slab requirements. 👍021 971 189 - jansen.m@casta.co.nz #armourjoints #slabs #industrialwarehouse #construction #structuralengineers

Gantry systems are a versatile and powerful tool used in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, and logistics. They consist of a gantry crane that travels along a track and a hoist that is suspended from the gantry crane. The hoist can be used to lift and move heavy objects, such as machinery, vehicles, and building materials. Here are some of the benefits of using gantry systems: Efficiency: Gantry systems can help to improve efficiency in the workplace by automating the lifting and moving of heavy objects. This can free up workers to focus on other tasks, and can also help to reduce the risk of workplace injuries. Safety: Gantry systems are designed to be safe and reliable, and they can help to reduce the risk of accidents in the workplace. For example, gantry systems can be equipped with safety features such as overload protection and anti-collision systems. Flexibility: Gantry systems are very flexible and can be used in a wide variety of applications. For example, gantry systems can be used to load and unload trucks, move machinery around a factory, or lift and place building materials on a construction site. Here are some examples of how gantry systems are used in different industries: Manufacturing: Gantry systems are used in manufacturing to lift and move heavy machinery and equipment. This can include tasks such as loading and unloading trucks, moving machinery around a factory, and placing machinery on assembly lines. Construction: Gantry systems are used in construction to lift and move heavy building materials, such as steel beams, concrete slabs, and prefabricated walls. This can help to speed up the construction process and reduce the risk of accidents. Logistics: Gantry systems are used in logistics to load and unload trucks and containers. This can help to improve the efficiency of shipping and receiving operations. Overall, gantry systems are a versatile and powerful tool that can be used to improve efficiency, safety, and flexibility in a wide variety of industries. Only the strong can survive 💯💪🏼 At TMC Masonry, we take immense pride in the craftsmanship and dedication of our team. Masonry is not just an art but also one of the most physically demanding trades in the construction industry. Here’s why: Intense Physical Stamina Masonry workers consistently need to maintain a steady pace while setting bricks, stones, and other materials. This requires tremendous physical stamina, as workers often have to lift heavy tools and materials, kneel, bend, and stand for prolonged periods. Strength and Dexterity The job demands exceptional physical strength. Masons frequently lift over 50 pounds, carrying heavy bags of mortar, grout, and other materials. Additionally, placing bricks and stones with precision requires remarkable dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Challenging Work Environments Masonry tasks are typically performed outdoors, exposing workers to various weather conditions. Whether it’s scorching heat, freezing cold, or rainy days, masons continue to work in challenging environments, which further adds to the trade’s physical demands. Injury Risks The nature of masonry work poses significant injury risks. Cuts, falls, and being struck by objects are common hazards. To mitigate these risks, masons wear protective gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, and harnesses, but the physical toll remains high. Heavy Workload Most masonry workers are employed full-time and often work overtime to meet construction deadlines. This demanding schedule, coupled with the physical intensity of their tasks, underscores why masonry is considered one of the most strenuous trades. At TMC Masonry, we recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our masonry workers. Their commitment to excellence and unparalleled skill truly define the strength and resilience of our company. Feel free to share and engage with us on our journey of building strong, beautiful, and enduring structures with our incredible team of masons. #TMCMasonry #MasonryLife #Construction #MasonryWork #SkilledTrades #Bricklaying #ConstructionIndustry #HardWork #BuildingStrong #Craftsmanship #ConstructionLife #PhysicalLabor #TradeSkills #StrongWorkers #DedicatedWorkers #MasonryCraft #BuildingAmerica #ConstructionWorkers #HeavyLifting #OutdoorWork #ConstructionSafety #TeamTMC #MasonryPride #ConstructionHeroes #BuildingExcellence
