Instructional Coach & International Educator | Curriculum Design | PedTech & EdTech | Facilitator of inquiry, innovation & growth for teachers and education teams
In my work as a coach of new and experienced teachers, I am always looking to provide a more precise and nuanced view of what makes for effective teaching and learning. And, it is vital to teacher wellbeing that they feel inspired to reconnect with their craft in an updated and innovative way. (And yes, teacher wellbeing comes from #efficacy, #autonomy and living their #values, not *just* free lanyards, massages and coffee.) I came across this informative and engaging framework of '7 Core 21st c. Teacher Competencies' in a guest post by Sam Kary of New EdTech Classroom featured on Ditch That Textbook's blog. What I really like about it is the short-hand way Sam connects to UDL framework and concepts, and provides easy-to-use and practical examples of what that looks like in a classroom. So, teachers, take a look! You might find ways to #upskill and refresh your practice. Who doesn't like free #PD? #UDL #teaching #instructionalcoaching #TPACK #professionaldevelopment

I frequently get asked, "why are you confident that the blended, self-paced, mastery-based model you scale at Modern Classrooms Project is more effective than the more traditional forms of instruction?" The answer is the same every time: it maximizes the amount of time teachers spend engaging in 1-1 and small-group instruction. One of the first studies we ever ran on our model revealed that 86% of Modern Classrooms-trained teachers felt they could work closely with each student in their class compared with only 19% of comparison teachers. The most alarming part of that data point is that only 19% of comparison teachers felt like they could work closely with each of their students. It is impossible to move the needle in K-12 education if we aren't creating the conditions for teachers to understand and address the unique needs of each student. The only way to do that is to equip educators with instructional models that pull them away from the front of the room and allow them to spend all day engaging in data-driven 1-1 and small-group interactions.

Small class sizes provide numerous advantages for a child's education. Here are three key reasons why small class sizes are ideal: 1. Personalized Attention: In small class sizes, teachers can provide individualized attention to each student. 2. Increased Participation and Collaboration: In smaller classes, students have more opportunities to actively participate and engage in discussions. 3. Enhanced Learning Environment: Small class sizes contribute to a positive and nurturing learning environment. Find a school that works best for your family at EducatedChoices.ca.

The goal of teaching is only reached by understanding our learners to connect instruction in a way accessible to them for usability. If learners can not access our instruction in the classroom because we have limited our instructional approaches to only the traditional methods, we have failed them as teachers. Teaching with RTI in mind means planning for the learners who will struggle, the ones who will adopt the concepts easily, and those who need additional challenges to stay engaged. The outcome of teaching is usable learning, which is measurable. All students deserve the opportunities that a free and appropriate public school education will provide. Differentiation is real teaching and most professional teachers can do this with their eyes closed. So let's make this a norm! Education is equity.

With project-based learning at the heart of our curriculum, we help educators create environments where every student can thrive, especially those who might otherwise be left behind. 🌱 By immersing students in hands-on projects, they learn the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to excel beyond the classroom. And not only can PBL enhance students' academic performance, it also helps close opportunity gaps. 📚 Translation: students from from diverse backgrounds have the chance to succeed, regardless of what part of town they grow up in.💡 Studies show PBL dramatically improves the likelihood of these students taking and excelling in advanced placement tests, setting a new standard for academic and real-world preparedness. 📝 This isn't just education; it's a movement towards a fairer, more informed, and innovative society. Our programs, aligned with core educational standards, empower students to master not only the content, but also the critical thinking and collaborative skills essential for tomorrow’s global challenges.
