Community is invited to join a new Burnie Works Action Group for the Middle Years Project. Last year, Communities for Children Burnie and Burnie Works explored how families of primary school-aged children access and navigate supports in Burnie. The aim: to co-design a product or service to meet community needs. We call it the Middle Years project. It is for families with children aged 5 to 12 years (Prep to Year 6). 🔸NEXT STEP: Build an Action Group to help guide us as we move into the next stage - turning your ideas into reality! We are holding a 'Come and Try' workshop on Thursday 7 March. This will give you a chance to come and see what it's about. It will be an opportunity to dip your toes in and see if it’s right for you – no pressure. 🔸DETAILS🔸 📆When: Thursday 7 March ⏰Time: 10am to 1pm 🏠Location: Burnie Surf Life Saving Club Facilitated by Fiona Miller, grassroots worker, and facilitator. Yummy morning tea. Safe and welcoming space. We have $100,000 to create something that the community wants and has designed. We will trial and test this work and collect the data to inform change for the future. Imagine if we design something here in Burnie that changes people’s lives, and we get to keep it going! If it doesn’t work as we thought we learn from this experience, and we try again! We get to say what success looks like for us. We need community to lead the way. Let us know if you can make it - use the registration link below. https://lnkd.in/g9qsZebz Learn about the Middle Years Project https://lnkd.in/gp_6Q2RV Read the Middle Years Report 2023 https://lnkd.in/gbdasFyj #burnie #middleyears #codesign #shareddecisionmaking #collectiveimpact

From little things…what started as an idea, a dream, is now a reality. Anyone who lives in country towns knows if you want something done, you get in, volunteer, get a team on board and work hard to make it happen. The old tennis courts in Binnaway had seen better days, not used much, weeds growing through the cracks you know the deal…I asked around, got a couple of people keen, slowly we built to having regular social tennis. There were holes in the old nets, the balls would hit the cracks in the surface but it brought people together and gave them much needed social connection and exercise in the middle of the drought. Slowly, we built a committee, applied for grants, improved the lighting, painted the amenities and cleaned, mowed, got new nets and whipper snipped. We held BBQs, fundraised or funded ourselves to keep it going and now have regular free kids coaching clinics in the school holidays. We dreamt of resurfacing: made a plan, got quotes, lobbied, held meetings, consulted, added a multipurpose court, persisted through the many challenges and finally…it happened! Lessons: 1. Do it yourself: you can sit around, whinge and wait or make a plan and make it happen 2. Volunteers are key to rural community resilience: the more we and particularly government at all levels can support volunteer community groups and their efforts the better. 3. It takes a team: everything is better when you can share it. Others will bring fresh ideas, perspectives and skills and of course it is crucial for that joint sense of ownership and achievement. Thanks to The Coonabarabran Times for their cover and volunteers everywhere for what you do 😊 🎾☀️

Truly Valued emerged as a beacon of positive change, extending its benevolent reach to encompass 18 schools and community sites across Sarasota and Manatee Counties. In the transformative year of 2023, the spirit of sacrifice and appreciation permeated the air, marking a significant chapter in the community's collective journey. As of December 2023, I AM Academy conducted a survey across seven sites, with the target response rate of 80%. The findings are as follows: 54 out of 63 respondents (86%) identified two character-building, confidence-boosting, and self-esteem enhancing aspects they learned. 57 out of 63 respondents (90%) reported implementing positive changes in their lives, such as cultivating better friendships, enhancing their behavior, and focusing on improving their academic performance. 58 out of 63 respondents (92%) indicated an increased level of self-respect and situational awareness due to what they had learned. The remarkable achievements of Truly Valued in 2023 were made possible by the invaluable support and investment from individuals like you who believe in the potential of our youth and families.
