This week, I’m trying VERY hard actually to take off work. I suck at it, like I said last week. I don’t feel pressured from work to keep working; I love my job. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get from finishing something, helping someone, or just brightening someone’s day. I. Love. My. Job. But, I flew home on Thursday (doc cleared me after surgery), and on Friday night, I was back in the ER. Pleural effusion with no explanation. The doc from my surgery had told me I could fly, but did say rest with some small walks to keep blood moving otherwise. I can’t say I did that. Well, the doc on Friday said to rest until I follow up with my PCM. I AM doing that this week. The point? No, not pity for being stupid and being back in the ER. Listen to the #experts. You go to experts for #advice and help because they know more than you. Listen to them. The experts, the successful people, the ‘winners’; we go to them because we know they know what we want to know. But why waste their time and not implement their advice or lessons? The people in your life bring value. When you go to someone who you consider an expert in something, listen. Even if you disagree, listen. You’ll learn, which is paramount to growth and #success. And you might not end up in the ER 4 days post-surgery for something that was probably avoidable! I had to undergo heart surgery because I delayed my check-up, even after experiencing breathlessness. During a discussion about her habit of procrastination, one of my mentees shared her experience of suffering. Aren't we all putting off many important things? The most common reason people give is "not finding time." The truth is not prioritizing tasks. Many people are trapped in mindless living, tackling emergency tasks first and postponing others until the deadline, resulting in some tasks becoming emergencies every day. To break out of this cycle, take on the challenge of scheduling your priorities. Don't procrastinate on tasks just because you have enough time to do them. Cultivate the habit of finishing all important tasks as soon as possible. Create narratives for yourself like: I have to go to the doctor today. I feel the need to organize my desk - I'll do it tonight. This one habit shift will eventually reduce the piles of pending work, and you will realize your control over your life. You will no longer be a slave to urgencies, but instead, you will have control over your schedule. Like a crazy collector, I save emails that communicate MODERN work/life boundaries. New us says: 1️⃣ Respond to this email when it works for YOU. 2️⃣ I'm on vacation. I won't be checking email. 3️⃣ I'll be slow respond to your email because I'm caring for an infant. 4️⃣ I'm traveling for a month. 5️⃣ My slack status: 🦮. That means I'm walking my 🦮. Yes, during work hours. These are incredibly symbolic on where we are heading. 📝When you are on vacation, do you still answer email? ♻️ To spread these. As I prepared the theatre for surgery this morning, I needed to collect some water into a bowl but I discovered that the tap was faulty, although not completely, because water was still trickling from the spout of the tap, so, I left there to do something else. On returning to the tap, I saw that the bowl was almost filled with water. Irrespective of the time I was gone for (which was not too long), the water was still collecting and was almost full. I had thought that I’d need to use another tap to achieve my goal but alas, that was not necessary any longer. At that instance I remembered that phrase ‘little drops of water makes a mighty ocean’ and I was inspired. You see, many times we give up on our dreams and aspirations because we don’t realize that the efforts we are putting in would yield any results. I have learnt over the years that to achieve any goal, you must first be a believer. You must be a believer in yourself and a believer in the achievability of the goal. Your vision must be clear, it has to be because it will be your compass on the journey to the attainment of your goal. What’s beautiful is that you can refine your vision from time to time, you can improve on it even as you develop as an individual. Do not give up on your goals. If you don’t have one, it is not late. Nothing makes life more interesting than having something to wake up for. Many people enter into depression because they just lost their will to live (although there are many other causes that could lead to depression). But, as humans God made us to be getters, there’s an innate desire in us to always do more. So don’t kill that dream, bless the world with the gift that God has put inside of you. So excited to share something that I have never shared with my professional contacts. ✨ I AM ONE YEAR POST-OP FROM MY PREVENTATIVE DOUBLE MASTECTOMY SURGERY ✨ At that time, having to momentarily push pause on my career was extremely scary, especially as a young professional trying to climb the corporate ladder. This year has been life-changing and has put my life, personal & professional into a new perspective. I quickly learned that stepping away & taking care of yourself WILL NOT hurt you in your professional career, in fact it only makes you stronger. I now am not afraid to do the scary things or the things that make me feel uncomfortable. I speak up, because if I miss a moment to express my thoughts or opinions who knows if that moment will arise again. Most importantly, I have put myself at the forefront. We only have one life, so stop feeling comfortable & start reaching for the stars and chasing career aspirations & stop feeling selfish for doing so. Don’t ever feel selfish for prioritizing your health, whether that’s mental or physical. My double mastectomy has put in perspective the work I do and who I do it for. Has made me more driven & more passionate. More importantly, make time for yourself outside of the office. Push yourself to try new things, do the scary things.. We only have one life.

𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸, 𝘀𝗼 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹. 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝗱 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲!!!! I am now back in the game after my surgery break. The pause was long but totally worth it. This season reminded me that our productivity soars when we're in sync with our bodies. So, I want to encourage a culture of health and self-care in our daily hustle. I had a bit of a reality check this week... 😥 On Tuesday, I found myself sitting in a hospital room, faced with the possibility of needing surgery. My immediate reaction and the words that came out of my mouth: "I don't have time for surgery." As a business owner, the idea of stepping away from work seemed unthinkable, although the mum in me thought what a great way to get some sleep! But here's the reality check: As much as we pour our hearts and souls into our businesses, our health is the foundation that supports everything we do and ignoring it is NOT an option. My health has not been great since I had my son and the appendicitis they suspected actually turned out to be another problem which now needs several tests to find out the root cause. Being ill as a business owner is incredibly challenging. The responsibilities don't pause, the emails keep coming, and the meetings don’t reschedule themselves. Yet, it's crucial to remember that without our health, none of these things can continue. And as the Doctor said "if you don't look after yourself, you won't have time for anything." I want to remind my fellow business owners and professionals to prioritise their health. Our businesses can only thrive if we do. Take that time off when needed, attend those doctor's appointments, and listen to your body's signals. #HealthFirst #WorkLifeBalance #BusinessOwners

Anxious about surgery under general anesthesia? Understandable. No 100% guarantee you'll wake up. Yet, the same thing happens every night. One moment you're awake; the next you're disappearing into non-being. We're cool with the nightly 'anesthesia' because we're used to it. Plus, dreams entertain us. In dreams, our consciousness passively watches whatever's on the show. The screen isn't blank. Even in nightmares, there’s some action, drama, and life. Nothingness scares us more. No past, present, or future there. But then I recall various peak experiences, where our 'self' also disappears: - great efforts in business, science, or sports, - feeling one with nature, - profound encounters, - gaining insight, - seeing beauty, - being creative, - love and so on. So, how does a peak experience differ from a dream or anesthesia? 1. We merge with something way more important than us. 2. Our ego disappears, yet we become more aware of who we are. 3.
