Check out the article below that features an excellent piece on ocelot recovery🐆 featuring the great Sharon Wilcox 🤠
Wildlife Conservationist | Cultural Geographer | Conservation Social Scientist | Wild Cat Specialist | Explorer's Club Fellow
“When people are made aware of the cats, they’re enthusiastic about their presence,” Wilcox says. “We owe them this fair fight for survival.” I am so honored to have been interviewed for this excellent piece on ocelot recovery in National Geographic alongside a terrific cast of characters fighting for these cats’ survival in South Texas. As a professional geographer, having our work featured in National Geographic is a particularly sweet moment. Nat Geo had such an impact on my own worldviews and interests as a child— I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to play a part in one of these stories. Now back to the fight to save a spot for the ocelots. 🐆
Ocelots once roamed the U.S. Can we bring them back?

It’s our most spook-tacular project yet! 💀 Our team of ghost hunters are on a mission to find the 👻s of the ocean…ghost ships, that is! Ghost ships are ships that sank unintentionally–often during storms or war–and provide ecologically valuable habitats for a diversity of marine species, ranging from reef fishes to top predators. Understanding how fish communities use these shipwreck reefs can help guide management decisions, spatial planning for offshore development, and habitat enhancement to ensure healthy reef ecosystems and sustainable ecosystems. Fins Up for Shark Week! 🦈💙 This week is the time to celebrate these awe-inspiring ocean predators that keep our marine ecosystems healthy. Millions of sharks die every year due to overfishing and demand for fins. They face a constant threat from human activity. But here's the good news: change starts with awareness! Shark Week isn't just about heart-pounding documentaries; it's a crucial platform to educate the masses about the threats sharks face and the critical role they play in healthy oceans. Shark Week sparks conversations, inspires action, and empowers us to fight for shark conservation. #SharkWeek #OceanLove #SaveOurSharks #Sharks

Human Wildlife Conflict in general, and Human Elephant Conflict in particular, have visible direct impacts (destruction of crops, injuries…) but hidden indirect costs (also called opportunity costs), such as the fear of encountering wild animals that can lead to poor school attendance for example, also have tremendous impact on populations living alongside wildlife. This paper illustrates a way to address these indirect costs. #humanwildlifeconflict #HWC #humanelephantconflict #coexistence #HEC

There's only one creature we'd feature on #WhaleSharkWednesday during #SharkWeek! Despite the misleading moniker, the whale #shark is indeed a shark, NOT a #whale! They are the biggest #fish in the sea, and if you're lucky you might see one in a sanctuary like #FlowerGardenBanks National Marine Sanctuary. Learn more about this gentle giant: https://ow.ly/Fgey50SybcP #WildlifeWednesday
