💾Which skills and roles are companies looking for in 2024? We thought we’d share some bite-sized insights from our experience in the last year (as a recruitment agency we interact with many companies looking for talent) and also industry reports on the matter. 🖱️ AI and ML continue their reign as the most sought-after skills (same as last year); 🖱️ Java remains the most in-demand language; 🖱️ Python follows suit (especially given its association with AI and the fact that it’s often recommended for beginners in programming); 🖱️ Most of the open roles are Back-end focused and there are only a few Front-End roles available at the moment; 🖱️ There is a surge in Data adjacent opportunities - Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Scientist etc. 🖱️ Followed closely by infrastructure roles - DevOps, Cloud Security, SRE; 🖱️ In the end of last year and the beginning of 2024 there were a lot of QA Automation opportunities (most often with Java or C#) but as we approach Q3 the demand has lowered; 🖱️ Internships have also taken a hit, the number or opportunities for people at the beginning of their career in IT decreasing significantly. #itrecruitment

Applying for an open job is not merely a question of hitting that button and uploading your CV. It’s common sense to go through the requirements for the role, assess your suitability and decide whether it would be something you’d enjoy doing, right? However, as recruiters that really take the time to build a job description that is both accurate and clear, we’re constantly stumped by the number of applications that have nothing to do with the job description. It’s a disservice you’re doing to yourself, as a job seeker, and, even though it might sound harsh, a lack of respect toward the people doing the selection for the role. The job market being what it is at the moment, it’s understandable to get excited by a role or a company and pay less attention to what’s required, but remember you’re cutting your chances short when you apply impulsively. That said, we’re not suggesting you only apply to jobs you’re 100% a match for. The room for growth, the opportunity to up-skill or learn new skills should always be a major factor in your decision to get involved in the selection process for a certain role. What we’re saying is make you sure you meet at least some of the important requirements in the job description.

💫 Quick tip 💫 for boosting your confidence before an interview, feeling more prepared and having a more fruitful chat with the recruiter. A day before the interview (or a few hours prior) ponder some initiatives you’ve had throughout your career. -Ideas that you’ve brought to the table (that have materialized or not) -Technical initiatives -Improved procedures -Team actions -Outcomes that you’re particularly proud of (or that have been a lesson in your career) Think about the context, the process and the results and write them down. It will be much easier during the interview to look back and answer questions about your experience and how you left your mark in other roles. And you won’t end the interview feeling like you didn’t highlight your achievements enough.

#aonromania #hr #talentmatchmakers #hrbreakfast #benefits #sharing #culture #community #hr

Switching jobs is tense. Hopefully you’re fueled by excitement, the promise of a new beginning in a team that shares your values and the chance to work on something rewarding! 🌻 However that doesn’t invalidate the typical nervousness - of switching contexts, meeting new people, creating new patterns, working on new equipment, understanding the inner workings of a new community etc. A way to make the transition less stressful is sharing your onboarding preferences from the interview stage. If you have experience starting in various organizations and you know what works for you - why not share it? Maybe you prefer to take your time, properly read the documentation and shadow another peer for a while. Or maybe you like to dive in headfirst and get to breaking things to see how they work. Do you prefer a more involved mentor that pays close attention to your progress and regularly checks on you? Or do you thrive if you have plenty of space and you’ll reach out when needed? Do you like having a work buddy? Do you prefer frequent 1on1s at first? And there are so many more preferences and behaviors. We can’t assume that a “one size fits all” approach is the way to go. And we shouldn’t. The road to a more personalized and effective onboarding stage usually consists of ☀️small changes and ☀️active listening. So don’t be afraid to share your preferences as early as possible. A healthy organization will take them into consideration making those first few months more enjoyable. #onboarding
