🚨Announcing the Human Mobility Prediction Challenge @ ACM SIGSPATIAL 2024🚨 Following last year's success, we're hosting the HuMob Challenge this year again with new data from Yahoo Japan (now LY Corp)! The task: Multi-City Human Mobility Prediction 🏃♂️ https://lnkd.in/gRd8r5u9 Some cities are less represented in the data than others... In data sparse cities, how can we use other cities' data to augment and improve predictability of human mobility patterns? Data and documentation will be available on July 20th, upon acceptance of agreement with data usage rules and restrictions. Submissions are due on Sep 20th, and top ~10 teams will be invited to present at ACM SIGSPATIAL 2024 in Atlanta, USA. Stay tuned with your best models!

The title of this speech is exactly to the point. Those three elements, all of them have to come together to make miracles to happen. Data, Technology and Ecosystem. Noting that all of those have many underlying details, the top line is not enough, but it is the mandatory necessary complex. Many interesting points by Peter Sarlin. at SITRA facilitated #NordicDataFestival2024

🌟 Exciting News in the Intersection of Technology and Mental Health 🌟 We are thrilled to announce the publication of our latest research in the IEEE Journal of Indoor and Seamless Positioning and Navigation (J-ISPIN), titled "Indoor Group Identification and Localization Using Privacy-Preserving Edge Computing Distributed Camera Network." 🔍 About the Research: A new system designed to monitor social interactions within a therapeutic environment, marking a significant step forward in understanding the nexus between physical spaces and mental health. Utilizing a distributed edge-computing camera network, our method accurately identifies and localizes group formations in a therapeutic setting, covering approximately 1700 m2. ✨ Key Highlights: - Privacy-Centric Approach: Leveraging edge computing to ensure data privacy and security. - Innovative Group Identification: Achieved an impressive F1 score of up to 90% with a mean absolute error of just 1.25 m in group localization. - Real-World Application: Scalable system that can transform any ordinary building into a smart environment, facilitating passive monitoring of patient social behaviors for real-time interventions. 🌈 Impact: This research opens new avenues for enhancing therapeutic units by providing a tool for the passive observation of social interactions, crucial for the mental health of patients. It demonstrates the potential of integrating technology into healthcare settings to create smarter, more responsive environments conducive to healing and recovery. 🤝 Join the Conversation: We believe this work will spark important discussions on the role of technology in mental health care. Share your thoughts on how edge computing can revolutionize therapeutic settings or any insights on privacy-preserving technologies in healthcare. 📰 Full paper at https://lnkd.in/eBcjASch Your feedback and perspectives are invaluable as we continue to explore innovative solutions at the crossroads of technology and mental well-being. #MentalHealth #EdgeComputing #HealthcareInnovation #SmartEnvironments #TechnologyInHealthcare #ISPIN Chaitra Hegde; Yashar Kiarashi; Amy D. The JLA Advisors team (Jorge Fuenzalida, Robert Napor, Sangit Rawlley) had an incredibly productive three days at the Metro Connect 2024 conference. We engaged in multiple meetings and dynamic discussions encompassing BEAD funding strategies, broadband expansion, the impact of AI on network operators and data centers, and numerous other exciting and timely opportunities. Special kudos to Bob Napor for his standout performance on the BEAD panel! For ISPs considering participation in BEAD grants, it's essential to evaluate the opportunity through the lens of the three Cs: 1. Company: Assess how BEAD aligns with your strategic goals and enhances your overall strategic objectives. 2. Competition: Identify your competitors, evaluate the competitive landscape, and understand their propensity to pursue grants in your target areas. 3. Compliance: Familiarize yourself with state rules, the scoring rubric, bidding currency, and strategies to maximize your probability of success. Looking forward to further discussions and collaborations in this exciting space! #ai #metroconnectusa #broadband #datacenters

A fine article penned by George Barnes of Hamilton Barnes 🌳 on page 7 of September's issue of Networking+. Catchily titled, 'Is it certifiable not to have a certification?' the #opinion piece looks at the decline of certifications in #networking, due to their lack of progression in relation to advancements in the market and their cost, when they're not a requirement. It's an interesting trend for the sector. Thanks to the publication for the inclusion.
