More hotel chains are making a foray into Tier 2 and 3 cities. Marriott International is expanding into non-metro locations, Forum Gandhi reports for businessline. The chain is planning to offer brands like Fairfield and Courtyard in cities like Indore and Jaipur, with properties also expected to launch in Surat, Guwahati, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Ayodhya, among others. Westin Hotels and Resorts, which is owned by Marriott International, is slated to launch a wellness resort in Coorg, while Le Meridien is looking to expand across north India, the report says. Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China) at Marriott International, says that the next leg of growth will come from Tier 2 and 3 markets. ITC, Taj Hotels, Radisson, the Leela Group, and Lemon Tree Hotels are eyeing these markets too, DR. RUCHITA VERMA, Dean - School of Hospitality Management at NMIMS University, shares in an Economic Times article. Agra, Siliguri, Katra, and Bhubaneswar are emerging hubs for hospitality as well. Reason? Improved connectivity, growing disposable incomes, demand for both business and leisure travel, and industrial development, Verma adds. The contribution of the hotel industry to India’s GDP is projected to touch $1 trillion by 2047, according to a report released last year by the Hotel Association of India and Benori Knowledge. Ram Mandir Inauguration: Hotel rooms soar to Rs 1 Lakh! Not only this; flights cost more than 20,000. Upon reading, I got to know how much this inauguration is going to help businesses grow and elevate tourism in that area. Around 5-7 lakh devotees are estimated at the inauguration, which has led to a spike in prices for hospitality sectors. Hotels, flights, and homestays prices have elevated by more than 50%. Lots of mega brands have also shown up, Reliance and Adani Dabur India will be distributing their product for free during the inauguration. Not limited to tourism and hospitality, companies who are making some sort of contribution to the mandir seem to have a rise in stock price, the reason is subjective but there is a prolonged effect on the overall Indian economy due to these inaugurations. Companies from diverse industries are foraying into the hospitality space across India’s Tier 2 and 3 markets, Anumeha Chaturvedi reports for The Economic Times. While Mankind Pharma entered the industry earlier this year with the Courtyard by Marriott Aravalli Resort near Faridabad and the Westin Rishikesh Resort and Spa, a publishing house owns the Wyndham Ramada Encore Hotel in Bareilly. Uddhav Poddar, MD of Kaushalya Logistics, says that the company is developing a hotel on the Mumbai-Delhi highway in Udaipur. What is making these firms venture into hospitality? Nikhil Sharma, Market Managing Director-Eurasia at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, says that lots of companies from luxury retail, finance, and technology are looking to diversify their portfolios by investing in the hotel industry. I know my wall will look like a rant board, but OYO, you aren't helping things with your shady deals. Allow me to share the details. Me,my wife, our 2.5-year-old kid need to travel to Pune for an early morning meeting. I usually use MakeMyTrip, which has given me excellent service for 12 years. In a hurry, I didn't realize I got connected to the OYO phoneline - and they sold me some hotel, saying that I'd need to pay only 10-20% extra for an early morning check-in. The next day, when I called the hotel, they flatly refused to agree on the early check-in and wanted me to book a room for 2 days, at full price! All those nightmarish tales I have heard about OYO seem to be true! I am so happy this was just a short trip! Heaven knows what would have happened if I had booked longer distances! #OYOBadService #OYO #OYONightmare Fact 1: Anyone in the hotel business knows, knows, knows that people on a short trip depend on railway train timings. It is an unsaid rule that check-in times are flexible, if not check-out times. I was pretty surprised to hear a straight-away 'no' from the hotel manager. Again, I have never, never, never had this problem with the hotels listed on MMT, right from Aurangabad to Goa. Fact 2: With this experience, the entire aspect of 'booking' a room goes out of the window. I paid - a paltry amount, I agree - to book the room in the night. In the morning, the person rejects the plan set by the OYO personnel. Does this mean OYO is only bookin' for people with loads of cash and term this as a 'minor inconvenience?' It should advertise itself as that, then - a company that caters to only the rich.
