In a study involving >6,000 people with #sicklecelldisease (SCD) and >17,000 age- and race-matched controls who were followed for one year postpartum, the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) was 11.3 percent in the patients with SCD versus 1.2 percent in controls. Arterial thromboembolism also increased (5.2 percent versus 0.6 percent in controls). This study emphasizes the value of postpartum VTE prophylaxis in people with SCD and the need for vigilance in evaluating suggestive symptoms. A case of young lady with anemia, thrombocytopenia , mild elevated LDH with renal impairment. It is not TTP , neither HUS but one of its DDx in which schistocytes can be seen in PB smear.
