Great to see Mental Health Care for all being supported by NSW Health. It'll be great when accessible Mental Health Care is built into and funded for all people living with complex chronic diseases such as #IBD (Crohn's and Colitis) and other #IMIDs. Currently there are significant care gaps despite good evidence that Mental Health care improves patient outcomes, reduces hopsital care needs and saves money....... Why do we still see such delays in translating care into practice? Why are health funding models so refractory to change when new information arises?
Today is World Mental Health Day, with the theme for 2023 "Mental health is a universal human right" including the right to quality mental health care. This is also a key focus of the NSW Health Future Health strategy. Find resources to support best practice for healthcare professionals from our Mental Health Network at https://bit.ly/3PPtlfn, including: 🔹 tools to provide trauma-informed care 🔹 the NSW Health Suicide Care Pathway 🔹 building collaborative cultures of care. #WMHD #WMHD2023 Deborah Howe

This May is both Mental Health Awareness Month and Older Americans Month, and as such, MedTrans Go wants to highlight the often overlooked intersection between the two. Over half the older adults that experience mental health issues are unable to access mental health services. At MedTrans Go, we empower older adults to live independently and get the mental health care they need by providing transportation to and interpretation for any medical appointments. Let's bridge the gaps in healthcare access together. #olderamericansmonth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmonth #olderadultshealth

How can health system boards make behavioral health a priority? By focusing on the mental health of people, patients and communities, health systems can play a critical role in driving meaningful change. "It is imperative that board members of hospitals and health care organizations prioritize and address mental health in their communities. By proactively monitoring and assessing the mental health needs of the community, board members can ensure that available resources are effectively leveraged to provide accessible and high-quality mental health services. They must collaborate with local stakeholders and promote innovative solutions to effectively address the growing mental health challenges in communities." -Arpan Waghray , MD, CEO, Providence's Well Being Trust Learn more: http://ms.spr.ly/6042YoZLY #healthcareleaders #mentalhealth #behavioralhealth

We don't need 'more of the same' to truly meet the mental health needs of the nation, what we need is a workforce that includes: ➡ a more diverse range of roles and skills ➡ better representation of the communities it serves, and ➡ action to bolster staff retention. Drawing from a roundtable we hosted with the NHS Confederation and Mind, we explored how we could build #AMentalHealthWorkforce for the future. Here are a few key areas where attention is required to close gaps in treatment, quality, equity and life expectancy in mental health care ⬇ For more, download the briefing: https://lnkd.in/e93FPX8r #AMentalHealthWorkforce #RoundTable #MentalHealth

We know that we need to address the “pair of aces” by building community well-being, interdependence, resilience, and safety. Community based solutions for complex problems is a thread I’m hearing today. What belongs at the state level and what can be embedded and funded in the community?
Oregon Health and Education Collaborative Executive Director Chelsea King is attending the State of Reform Health Policy Conference, participating in conversation about substance use disorder, houselessness, mental health crisis and healthcare workforce issues. The issues are complex and it’s going to take cross sector partnership to address these challenges. There are smart folks tackling issues, so keep the hope. OHEC’s #UpstreamInitiative is designed to create solutions that live in the community, in a cross-sector manner, to get ahead of the trauma and adverse experiences that lead to these downstream issues.
