And if someone you know is looking for an experienced senior marketing leader (VP, Sr. Director, Director), I would be grateful for the introduction!
A little bit about me:
🏆 Mentor, servant leader, builder of high-performance marketing teams, domestic & international
💰 Expert in creating, capturing & converting demand to revenue
🎯 As VP Marketing, I built the marketing function from the ground up & executed a holistic strategy, generating a 6x ROI in 6 months
💵 As Head of Marketing, I grew revenue by 300% in 15 months
🏢 B2B SaaS expert but open to exploring cool companies & roles – I’m looking for my dream job for the next 5+ years.
It’s been 60 days since starting my search for my next #vpmarketing role. The first 30 days was crazy – full of screenings, interviews & meet & greets. Finding a job was a full-time job.
I didn't take the opportunity to decompress & take a step back to evaluate my next steps. I honestly thought I’d be working by the end of the month. Little did I know. 🤦♀️
I was more strategic in September & tried to get more comfortable with 6-12 interviews over 4-8 weeks (I still ask “why?”). I spent more time & energy on each opportunity and learned how to better position my experience – it’s not easy for an #introvert to be a self-promoter.
Here's what I recommend to others #opentowork.
🛑 Don't spend 6-8 hours a day looking at LinkedIn – seeing layoffs is depressing, applying for jobs is exhausting & seeing the jobs you’ve applied for get reposted over and over is demoralizing.
Be kind to yourself.
👊 That said, I have made a concerted effort to engage on #LinkedIn. I’ve made hundreds of new connections, become acquainted with some very cool companies doing very cool things & built a community.
Find your tribe.
🆘 I’ve asked for help - not an easy thing for an introvert. But most people want to help with an internal referral or introduction or even to offer a word of encouragement.
Lean into this.
💻 Found job boards & communities outside of LinkedIn. Yes, they do exist. There are a 930 million users on LinkedIn. We all see the same job posts.
Diversify.
🏈 I’ve attended all of my son’s football games. Even the ones far away. Even when it’s cold. Even when I’d rather stay home with a glass of wine.
It’s been a pure joy.
📝 I made a huge honey-do list (although the ‘honey’ is me). Painting, cleaning, organizing, purging, gardening, etc.
I feel so much lighter.
🏋♀️ I joined a gym. I have everything I need at home but getting into a routine & leaving my house is keeping me sane.
Take care of your body.
⛪ I returned to church. I worked so much that by the weekend, I barely had energy for anything else. At first, I was going to get out of the house, but 8 weeks in, I’m finding such peace.
Take care of your spirit.
