💡 If the information is missing here, it is regularly an extremely bad sign to investors. 👨💻 Stefan Sollberger is the CFO Swiss Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands (SCCN) and the CEO of Sollberger KMU Treuhand. He has an extensive number of years of experience and expertise as a Partner, Advisor, Mentor and Investor. 🎧 English Translation: "Have no business model! Founders do not present to investors as a pastime, but because they want money for their start-up. Sometimes, however, one has the impression that the business model is questionable. This is because the founders cannot always explain exactly how they want to earn money and, in particular, how much. Of course, every business forecast is fraught with uncertainty. Investors know that. Nevertheless, founders must be able to plausibly explain what income, costs and profits they expect. In addition, they need to know what factors can influence costs and profits. If the information is missing here, it is regularly an extremely bad sign." ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 Investors need to perceive that an entrepreneur is able to deal with problems, before deciding to invest their money with them. 🎧 English Translation: "Questions of all kinds when presenting! Investors want to see that their investment is in good hands with the company they intend to invest in. This also includes perceiving the entrepreneur as competent and believing that he or she is able to deal with problems. And if you don't have an answer ready, it's still more confident to admit it than to stammer around or even share false information. By the way, investors sometimes ask critical or hard questions just to see how entrepreneurs deal with the pressure that arises from them. You shouldn't take that personally or answer in a clumsy / boastful way." ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 Investors don't have to understand it, they just see that it works, like a light bulb 👨💻 Stefan Sollberger is the CFO Swiss Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands (SCCN) and the CEO of Sollberger KMU Treuhand. He has an extensive number of years of experience and expertise as a Partner, Advisor, Mentor and Investor. 🎧 English Translation: " Both when sending the email and during the pitch presentation, many startups end their pitch deck with a meaningless "Thank you very much" for their attention slide. Nothing against the flowers but still... Don't do that! Instead, summarize why the investor should invest ! If you end with a summary slide, you can also leave this slide during the questions part of a meeting. This way, investors are reminded of why they should invest every time they look at it. You could also equate it to hypnosis: You need to invest now, invest, it's good for you....you don't have to understand it, just see that it works, like buying a light bulb. 💡 That's not a bad thing, because it takes more than just an idea to be successful as a company. 🎧 English Translation: "Who is in the competition? The really ingenious and unique ideas are very rare. Often there is already a comparable approach to a business idea from another company. That's not a bad thing, because it takes more than just an idea to be successful as a company. In any case, you should deal with the competition and the strengths and weaknesses of competing companies. In this way, you show investors that you know the competition on the one hand and, in the best case, know why your start-up is better or what advantages your company has over the competitors. Only then does the investor see the market for it and its return on investment. Otherwise there is not a single golden thaler from the treasure chest of the castle by the lake. HORSEPOWER: No one will invest solely on the basis of a business plan or a pitch deck. except a fool. " ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 Keep it short – every type of material you send out has only one goal – to get to the next step with investors. 🎧 English Translation: "There are three types of basic materials that I think you need to contact investors. The first is the initial contact material, which you'll likely send via email. It has to summarize - very briefly - what your business idea is and why the investor should take the next step, i.e. what jumps out of it. Maybe you can already get to a conversation here, preferably online. You then need an executive summary with enough details that the investor will bite and be interested in a meeting. You send this summary after he asks for it. Finally, you need a more detailed presentation, which can either be sent out or presented in a reduced version. Keep it short – every type of material you send out has only one goal – to get to the next step with investors. You don't close the deal on the first contact. What not to do: - At the first contact, send an NDA with a contractual penalty. - Dictate the conditions for an investment right away. Usually, an investor participates via shares of the company and unfortunately these are illiquid assets in the majority of all startups. " ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 An investment is always associated with consequences. Especially among professional investors. 🎧 English Translation: "A classic mistake startup teams make when looking for funding is to be sure of the money before the process is complete. Experience shows that you have to keep selling until an offer has been made. Remember, you're selling until the last second, and investors also want to be convinced to buy before they decide. HORSEPOWER: Shares of startups are high-risk securities and illiquid assets. No investor invests according to the principle of hope unless he or she is a fool. And an investment is always associated with consequences. Especially among professional investors. Oh yes, also important to mention, an investor does not give you money so that you can use it to pay your private debts. " ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 The idea of investment diversification: you don't put all your money into one investment, so as to minimize your losses when they do occur. 🎧 English Translation: "Not all the eggs in one basket and the clucking chickens! If you want to transport eggs, never put all the eggs in one basket – if it falls down, all the eggs are gone (all fried eggs or whatever). That's the idea of diversification: you don't put all your money into one investment, only to see all your money lost when that investment goes down the drain. So you should distribute the money in such a way that the risks to which the funds are exposed have as little to do with each other as possible. For example, if you put half of your money into an umbrella factory and the other half into a sunscreen manufacturer, then half of your money is always safe – rain or shine, including a rainbow. 💡 If you can show that they're making money from your business, that's half the battle. Here are a few things to keep in mind that are generally important in any presentation to investors 👨💻 Stefan Sollberger is the CFO Swiss Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands (SCCN) and the CEO of Sollberger KMU Treuhand. He has an extensive number of years of experience and expertise as a Partner, Advisor, Mentor and Investor. 🎧 English Translation: "While every investor has their own requirements and is looking for an investment that matches their personal interests and selection criteria, there are a few things to keep in mind that are generally important in any presentation to investors, regardless of their preferences: 1. On the one hand, investors want to see a return on their investment. They put money into young companies to make money. 2. If you can show that they're making money from your business, that's half the battle. 3. Investors want to invest in companies and industries that they can understand. Actually logical... 4. One of the most important factors that play a role for an investor are the founders and the other people involved. So if you're a good guy to work with, then you're exactly the type of founder investors are looking for. 5. Investors also want to see a so-called proof of concept. 6. Money: if it's not clear how your business is ever going to make money, it's not a business, it's a hobby." ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? 💡 If you can't find anyone who solves the same problem, you should ask yourself if there is even a problem to solve.... 🎧 English Translation: "It's a common mistake among startup entrepreneurs to think they don't have competitors. Because even if there are no direct competitors, they probably have indirect competitors who solve the problem in a different way. If you can't find anyone who solves the same problem, you should ask yourself if there is even a problem to solve.... HORSEPOWER: If the investor doesn't understand the problem you want to solve, he won't see the market and his return on investment. Just seeing that it works, i.e. perhaps being used by a few customers, is not enough. " ⬇ Curious about how an investors mind works ? Here is my pitch deck: "With my intellectual property (IP), a copyrighted multilingual metadata, I can do what ChatGPT, an icon of AI, can't do in data analytics. Without metadata, NO data can be found/retrieved, even by the most advanced technologies, like AI, supercomputers, etc. https://lnkd.in/g-aJFnXR My IP can also make your information service UNIQUE in the world" Do you or any of your contacts need my expertise and my IP? I am selling, NOT talking. Thanks. P.S. I wrote this statement myself, without using any AI tool.
💡 A malfunctioning video leaves a bad impression with an investor during funding pitches. Ensure that you get to the venue early or the day before for a run through. 👨💻 Stefan Sollberger is the CFO Swiss Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands (SCCN)and the CEO of Sollberger KMU Treuhand. He has an extensive number of years of experience and expertise as a Partner, advisor, mentor and investor. 🎧 English Translation: "I have already observed a few times in the context of a presentation that elements such as videos are integrated. (nowadays people like to watch videos or movies). When the moment comes when the video is supposed to be played, it may be that the video did not work because the video was to be accessed via a Wi-Fi connection, for example, and the Wi-Fi did not work. Of course, that's stupid. Here you can hear regular apologies from startup entrepreneurs, such as: "When we tried it, it worked, sabotage." But the impression left behind is not good (now we just sit there in front of the black umbrella..). On the one hand, there is a logical lack of content in the presentation, on the other hand, there is a general lack of professionalism. So you should make sure that everything that is needed really works during a presentation. Remember: there is no second chance to make a good first impression." 👁️🗨️ Curious about how an investors mind works ?
