Weekly inspirational, uplifting and sometimes humorous Military Post #34 of 44 for 2023. “You don’t buy a dog and bark yourself” Can be traced back to at least 1583 (Brian Melbancke) and also my father, a military man who used it a lot. In general terms it means that if there is someone lower on the ladder that you can palm this off on to, then do it. Don’t do things below your pay grade. In a more modern business setting though, I prefer to see the saying as aligning your thinking to ‘giving people a chance’. Are you pushing decisions out as far as they can go within your team? Yes you can bark, you have been barking now for many years, woof woof, who’s a good boy? You obviously. But who hasn’t had a chance yet to show what their bark can do? Who just needs a little shot of confidence and support to get their first bark out and from then on it’s woof woof all day long? Frees you up or other members of the team up to turn their attention to other things? Of course it does. Give your team the opportunity to bark, see what noises they are capable of making and you may just reap the rewards. #woofwoof #leadershipdevelopment

To my fellow veterans and those who support us, I recently retired from the Air Force after 20+ years of service. Some days feel strangely solitary. Some days we think we know exactly what we want, while on others, we feel lost and misunderstood. Some days we try to fit in, and on others, we feel that "fitting in" would mean betraying who we are. Some days we're on cloud nine, and on others, we're operating in the gray area of uncertainty. Why is that? Well, that's a question we may want to explore with curiosity and grace. You see, most veterans share a bond forged by a deep and common purpose. That purpose gave our lives meaning and ignited a passion within us that we never knew existed. The truth is, from the moment I was born into a military family, all I ever wanted to do is serve in the military. My father, a Vietnam Veteran and 24-year Air Force Veteran, and my sister, an Air Force Veteran who served in Security Forces, played a significant role. I grew up watching jets take off, helicopters hover, and movies like Platoon, Iron Eagle, Top Gun, and Rambo. It was in my blood. My mother believed I was a natural leader and instilled values that would help me serve others. The military base was my playground, where the men and women who wore the uniform shaped my beliefs. Coaches, like Coach Perry, held full-time jobs in the military and still found time to volunteer to mentor young men like me. Strangely, once we leave this environment, we often dwell on what we've lost, what we no longer have. We struggle to communicate this to others, even to those closest to us. It's not about making others understand what our service meant to us, to the nation, and to those in our charge. It's about honoring yourself with a heartfelt "you did good" and allowing moments of grace. It's about reaching out to your fellow brothers and sisters, sharing the tough days, and listening to theirs. It's about finding the space to laugh about the funny moments and to heal from the heavy ones. It's about appreciating how your service has shaped you as a person. It's about the love you willingly gave to the people who executed the mission alongside you. It's about finding a way to keep giving to others because, deep within our hearts, being a veteran is all about service to others. It's in that space of service that we find meaning once again where we can look back and smile on Veterans Day and every day after. I am deeply honored to receive text messages and phone calls from so many people who've had a positive impact on my life or whose lives I've touched. From fellow service members who continue to carry the flag forward to those who have transitioned into a new way of life. On this Veterans Day, I'd like to thank all who took the oath and never gave up on the person to their left and right. I am truly honored to stand among you as a veteran. Lest we forget, the #KingMufasa 🦁 of all Uncles, Sergeant First Class, Bravo Commander of Special Forces, aka #GreenBerets, Uncle Sebastian, aka, The #BabySitter of the #LovelessFamily 🦾🇺🇸⚔️🔱 To the kiddos, he is simply knows as Uncle Seb, or we can call him the #nemo of the oceans. Now, ladies, this 🌴 aka #coconut tree is what I call him, is #SFC ‘s gym buddy, or as they would like to call themselves, #TagChampions, whatever that means. Apparently, they’re both 6-feet tall men, built like a #tank, I’ll “air quote”, but I prefer to #hashtag this, again, another #teddybear 🧸, with Seb being a 1/4 taller than my #Alpha, too, is a walking 🦖🦕 I say this because they have the worst pick up lines since #lions do not pick up their food, their lionesses do, am I right? Or did I watch #DavidAttenborough’s safari on the #animalkingdom, wrong? Army men such as Uncle Seb, or again, the baby sitter; built like tanks but deep, deep down are really just bunch of puppies 🐶 they huddle up in a circle as they “discuss”, their wives and girlfriends back home. He doesn’t have one though. Again, the worse pick-up liner. I’ve been teaching them, don’t worry ✌🏼 Army term, “discuss”, in their words, #nag! How dare they? I think it’s time for all the true #Queens of this world to #dominate, after all #MotherNature, can bring down a fort, no matter what material is built with, just like in #RedRidingHood, the wolf 🐺 just like Uncle Seb 🐠 can huff and puff to the bad men of the ugly wars, again, when it comes to the little cubs, he too, folds like a camp chair. So, to the #TrueQueens of this generation, like #LassieZia 🌹, the #WorldWomenSoceity is now live! Keep holding your head up, ladies or your crowns will fall off. After all, who needs a man when you can hold your own?
