And only 1 in 4 of our food insecure neighbors can access the help available. 💔 That is unacceptable. Period. Daniel Zauderer and his team at Grassroots Grocery shows us an innovative way to actually change these disturbing stats. As a community, WE can extend the food supply chain the last mile to reach 2500+ households each week!! 🤝🥒🥦🍎🤝 Grassroots Grocery’s network of neighbors helping neighbors takes excess, wholesale bulk produce from Hunts Point Produce Market directly into the heart of the surrounding communities to those who need it most. Thats what I call farm to table for all!! ❤️ How? 5 days a week, Team GrG & volunteers like me pack and deliver beautiful fresh produce (which might otherwise go to waste) to courageous community leaders who host neighborhood produce giveaways = dignified, hyper-local access to healthy food. Confidentiality is critical for what we do. What do you do, however, when people come to our food pantry? It's staffed by volunteers and people come in to pick up food. Our solution is multi-pronged. Our digital food pantry allows individuals to order their food ahead of time so they just need to pick up their order rather than spend extra time in the food pantry. Additionally, our volunteers ask who they are picking up for, as if they are merely volunteering themselves to bring food to another family. It’s a typical dialog exchange until it comes time to pay. 🎬Scene change to *my* favorite coffee shop. A Place at the Table coffee shop in Raleigh, NC is a “pay what you can cafe”. Hmmm. That’s different. Well, when you pay for your coffee and meal, you can add a tip of any amount that directly “pays it forward” for someone who cannot afford a meal. Coffee with a purpose.☕️ "A Place at the Table" is a non-profit café with a clear mission: 🍴To provide community and good food to all, regardless of means. This coffee shop is helping fight food insecurity while building community through their unique business model. Patrons can pay a suggested price, pay a little extra to pay it forward, or work for a meal. The cafe operates with a small staff and relies on volunteers from local businesses, church groups and colleges, to serve food, clear tables and greet guests. Inspired yet? 👉Next time you’re in Raleigh, swing by 300 W Hargett St and meet some Raleigh neighbors. Maggie Kane runs the cafe with a strong sense of purpose and guiding values. Every slice is a testament to the care and thoughtfulness that Holy Mission invests in its mission to serve those in need. Inclusive Gathering: Held in the park opposite Hesed House Homeless Shelter, this event emphasizes inclusivity and community spirit. It’s a chance for people from different walks of life to come together and share in the joy of a meal. Dedicated Volunteers: Our compassionate volunteers, Tanay and Morris, will be at the forefront of this event, ensuring that every individual is treated with kindness, respect, and a warm slice of pizza. Beyond Food: “Pizza of Compassion” isn’t just about pizza; it’s about fostering connections and igniting hope. Volunteers will engage in conversations, create a welcoming atmosphere, and remind attendees that they are valued members of our community.
