In the hospitality industry, delivering value to customers is crucial. With inflation and increasing food costs, it's becoming more challenging to ensure customers perceive the value. Today, let's take a bite out of this topic by using a classic example - the cheeseburger. I want to hear your thoughts and input! At what price point is a well-made, well-plated cheeseburger and fries no longer a value to you and considered "expensive"?
Assuming we are in a gastro pub and have a trendy-looking smash burger in front of us, 6 oz of beef properly seasoned, two slices of cheese melted, some caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and some 'chefs' sauce all on a nice looking bun with a side of hand-cut fries, what are you willing to pay for the plate? Is it 15 CAD, 19 CAD, 28 CAD, or 31 CAD?
Please include the USD - CAD - or your currency in your responses!
A cold night with a big bowl of noodle-y, saucy goodness is a balm for the soul. Pasta is essentially made with four ingredients — water, eggs, wheat, and salt. The word ‘spaghetti’ is derived from the word ‘spago,’ meaning twine or string. Like in Italy, spaghetti is cooked worldwide to “al dente,” which means it is soft enough to be bitten easily and quite chewy.
Because of the chewy texture that is soft but firm, spaghetti can easily handle tomato sauce. Most spaghetti dishes are tossed in meaty tomato sauce and topped generously with freshly grated parmesan or Romano cheese. 🍝🧀🍞
❓: Do you like spaghetti? Which restaurant sells the best spaghetti?

18 states, dozens of pizzas 🍕, and 1 reporter.
Brett Anderson of The New York Times ate pizzas in 18 states to write “How America Became the Capital of Great Pizza.”
Fun to learn how Americans’ love of pizza got upgraded from frozen pizza dough to Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in wood-fired ovens.
Pizzeria owners are incorporating their own cultural food traditions into pizza. Think:
-Bangladeshi chutney (made with dried shrimp, anchovies, roasted garlic, cilantro)
-Mexican refried beans and homemade roasted jalapeño salsa
-Korean beef short ribs on pizzas.
What is your favorite pizza 🍕?

You Can Get Taco Bells New-ish Crispy Melt Taco for Free-ish Right Now [Video]
Taco Bell is offering their “new” Crispy Melt Taco for “free” until Feb. 15. I write that with some skepticism, as it’s questionable whether the CMT is actually new, and you can only get it for free if you are willing to buy a bunch of other food too. But hey, a free taco is a free taco is a free taco.
If the Crispy Melt Taco looks familiar to you, it’s because it was previously offered as the since discontinued Cantina Crispy Melt Taco , which debuted in 2021, according to Chew Boom . The rereleased version comes with a new name but the same exact ingredients: a fried white-corn shell, a melted layer of three-cheese blend and nacho cheese sauce, and filled with a protein (either black beans or seasoned beef), reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheddar cheese. Which is to say, they’ve done it again: Taco Bell has combined its five ingredients in a totally new …

You ever bite into a steak with that perfect, buttery crust? With every bite, and every chew, the rich flavor slowly works its way to the back of your tongue, as the salt kisses your lips.
There is no better way to cook a steak than in a cast iron pan. You turn the heat up high, liberally sprinkle some salt, pepper, and granulated garlic on each side, heat some butter in the pan, throw the steak in, then top it with a little butter so it can melt into the steak.
Not only do you get a perfect crust, but you can get a nice medium rare even if you don't have that perfect 1.5" ribeye. And if you don't like that nice pink center, you can always finish in the oven.
But how many times have you just wrecked your beloved cast iron pan, then struggled to get it clean? After all, cleaning it with soap and water is a cardinal sin, and it should only be wiped out, and then rubbed down with a little olive oil and salt.
"But Doug," you say, "the pan is just caked with remnants of the steak! What am I supposed to to with that?!?"
Well chill, people, Dougie's got you!
Just pour an inch of water in the pan, along with the equivalent of a bullion cube, cover it and stick it in the oven at around 200 degrees, or put it on your stove and simmer it on low heat.
After about 15 minutes or so, you can pour the liquid out, and your pan will easily wipe clean. Not only that, but you'll have added some great notes to the pan's seasoning!
If you pour the broth into a container, you can even use it as a soup stock, or as the base for a really flavorful gravy.
So there's your free culinary tip for the night. I'm happy to accept gratuities in the form of steak!
