I have mixed emotions about this, as my friends in the PE world would say we haven’t done poorly for the last 25 years or so. There is also the argument that organizations never fully understand talent in its criticalness in PE and every organization, from mom-and-pop to the giants. Every day, we see organizations at least giving it more lip service while some are trying to think about talent differently. My view is and always has been that it is only about the talent; the rest falls from there, first having the right talent in the right job with the right resources and learning how to leverage that talent to create more time for you. Many in my network know I always make time for David Novak's weekly #howleaderslead Podcast. As the parent of a baseball player going through the college recruiting process, I couldn't wait to listen to this week's podcast with Mustard CEO Rocky Collis. https://lnkd.in/eMZ6mKwq There are so many great lessons not only for my son to follow but for me as well. The two I already used today in meetings: 1. Strategy is sacrifice - There could be a podcast on these three words! 2. Giving myself a "Kindness Score" after leading a meeting with a difficult colleague. Thinking about this before the meeting allowed me to handle the conversation more patiently and gracefully. Finally, this third takeaway was a great reminder of daily goal setting. I asked my son what goals he set this morning when he got up that would make him better tomorrow. I loved that he had his answers ready and is currently at the field, completing goal 3 for the day. If you are not a weekly listener to #howleaderslead, make that your first goal. You'll quickly see why I make time each week to listen.
