#Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day, is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery for Black Americans in the United States. It marks the day in June 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved people that they were free by executive decree – two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
