SWBC employees lent a helping hand to St. Stephens CARE Center, a United Way agency, during our SWBC Day of Caring on Saturday, June 15! Volunteers spent the morning sorting and stocking essential food and clothing items to help St. Stephens provide immediate assistance to over 300 people per week! One in 7 people in Bexar County are food insecure, meaning organizations like St. Stephens CARE Center are vital in helping to stabilize families and individuals. It was an incredible experience, complete with a memorable meet and greet with Spurs' center Victor Wembanyama. To honor this moment, the Spurs gifted SWBC Chairman and Co-founder Charlie Amato and President and Co-founder Gary Dudley a framed image of this special meeting! CHRISTUS Children's recently unveiled its new state-of-the-art operating rooms, the first of their kind in Texas. These two cutting-edge rooms are equipped with the DaVinci Xi robotic system, which allows for minimally invasive surgeries using tiny incisions that reduce infection risk and postoperative pain. Additionally, the rooms feature a revolutionary system utilizing pressure control and specialized lighting to automatically and continuously disinfect the environment. In an exciting unveiling, we introduced our new DaVinci robotic assistant, Trixie. Dr. Ann O'Connor, Chief of Pediatric General Surgery and leader of our robotic surgery program, highlighted how Trixie will enhance minimally invasive surgeries, reducing infection risk and postoperative pain. We owe a tremendous thank you to Harvey Najim and the Najim Charitable Foundation for supporting the buildout of our high-tech ORs and to the SWBC Foundation for their generous $2.75 million donation, which funded the DaVinci robot. Dr. Katherine A Barsness, Chair of Pediatric Surgery, shared, "With builds like this, it enables us to move to that next level of complex care, and we are so excited to offer families the chance to stay in San Antonio and return home quickly." This gift marks SWBC’s most significant donation, bringing their total contributions to CHRISTUS to an impressive $6.2 million over the years. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering support. Special thanks to Charlie Amato, Gary Dudley and Lisa Wilson for their continued leadership, dedication and support for CHRISTUS Children’s. The SWBC Foundation is thrilled to announce our support of $250,000 for Brackenridge Park Conservancy. This gift will fund the restoration of the historic raceway and pumphouse, allowing water to flow naturally through the system once again. Brackenridge Park Conservancy works to restore natural park features, preserve historical structures, improve the water quality, and increase pedestrian access to and within the park.
