See how easy it is to remove barriers and enable independence? #accessibility design consultant Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D. shows how a simple door stop propping the door open creates access for all. Of course, using a door stop means that someone from maintenance or facilities management or another building uset has to set it up. For true independence, features should not require things to be set up for success. Yesterday, I posted a short video of me on a scooter trying to open the restroom door at the Seattle Convention Center. Here is a video showing how easy it was to enter the restroom when the door stop was in place. As the accessibility consultant for the Association of American Medical Colleges for their annual meeting, I suggested that door stops be placed at the restroom doors. As restrooms are designed in the future, there is an accessibility advantage to eliminate entry doors. This allows people to quickly enter and exit without the need to open doors. #AAMC #MeetingProfessionals #Accessibility

This is a video of me at the Seattle Convention Center during the Association of American Medical College annual meeting earlier this month. I was trying to get into the restroom. There was no way to open the door electronically, nor was a door stop present. I struggled to get in on my own and sometimes waited to ask anyone passing by to hold the door open. This was a frustrating experience for me. My recommendation as the accessibility consultant was to place door stops on restroom doors. #AAMC #MeetingProfessionals #Accessibility
