Subsea pressure boosting Subsea boosting as shown in Figure reduces or eliminates the backpressure on the wells resulting from the riser hydrostatic head and the riser and flowline pressure drop caused by high viscosity. The pressure increases between the output of the boosting and the backpressure on the well will increase the flow from the well. Components of a subsea boosting station may include: • Subsea gas compressor, normally used for gas re-injection into the reservoir for pressure maintenance; • Subsea multiphase pump, used for reduce the back-pressure on wellheads thus increase the transport distance; • Subsea wet gas compressors, used for gas transportation to remote offshore host facilities or onshore factory Subsea pressure boosting system enables longer subsea tiebacks, which potentially could enable the economics of exploiting small, remote, marginal fields. Subsea separation could provide an economic alternative for debottlenecking existing surface process facilities, allowing better utilization of these installations by adding new subsea tiebacks which currently would not be economic to develop. Subsea boosting may require high consumption of the electric power during the production thus the power sources should be considered. #subsea #oilandgas #offshore

Preserving and extending the life of high value oil and gas wells involves regular maintenance and capital investment. Malfunctioning valves present a range of problems, from difficulties with wellbore access to fluid loss, loss of primary well barriers, and potential production shutdowns. In this example, an operator in Trinidad & Tobago utilised EV’s Optis technology to help evaluate the integrity and function of a Surface-controlled Subsurface Safety Valve in their gas well. The safety valve in the 7-inch tubing was leaking and several inflow tests were performed and confirmed the leak rate exceeded the operator’s integrity standards. With the integrity of the well at risk, the operator needed a complete understanding of the situation downhole. Natural Gas Compressor Stations Compressor stations are an integral part of the natural gas pipeline network that moves natural gas from individual producing well sites to end users. As natural gas moves through a pipeline, distance, friction, and elevation differences slow the movement of the gas, and reduce pressure. Compressor stations are placed strategically within the gathering and transportation pipeline network to help maintain the pressure and flow of gas to market. Safety Considerations Compressor stations incorporate a variety of safety systems and practices to protect the public and station employees in the event of an emergency. For example, every station has an emergency shutdown system (ESD) connected to a control system that can detect abnormal conditions such as an unanticipated pressure drop or natural gas leakage. These emergency systems will automatically stop the compressor units and isolate and vent compressor station gas piping (sometimes referred to as a blow down). Compressor stations periodically test and perform maintenance on the emergency shutdown system to ensure reliability.
