🧵 Power Imbalance in Fashion Supply Chains The fashion industry faces a power imbalance between suppliers and buyers, leading to compromised worker safety. With consumers demanding fast and sustainable fashion, suppliers are under pressure without additional compensation. Key Points: Companies must align purchasing practices with regulations like CSDDD, improving human rights and sustainability. Non-Compliance Consequences: Fines up to 5% of global turnover and potential damage claims. Matthijs Crietee, IAF: New regulations prevent buyers from shifting all costs to manufacturers, promoting fairness. Kate Lewis, ETI: Responsible purchasing practices protect workers and enhance business sustainability. Peter McAllister, ETI: This is a chance to standardize human rights due diligence and improve global working conditions. #Sustainability #Fashion #EthicalTrade #HumanRights #SupplyChain

🌐 Is the fashion industry prepared to meet the demands of traceability-focused legislation? 📈 As Europe rolls out over 16 new laws in the last year aimed at traceability, our fashion industry is at a pivotal moment. A highlight? An impressive 52% of major brands have now published information about their first-level suppliers in 2023, a significant jump from 30% in 2022 Despite this progress, the detail in traceability tells another story. Nearly half of the brands scoring between 0 and 1%, it's evident that transparency efforts have room to grow 🧐. Moreover, a mere 12% of brands are transparent about their raw material suppliers, signaling a gap in full supply chain transparency 🌍. As the legislative landscape tightens, it's clear that while strides have been made, the pace of increasing traceability isn't quite matching up with the surge in legislative demands 🔍. This calls for a moment of reflection: how can the industry further adapt to meet new legislationst? 🌱 I expect the CSDDD will boost commitment towards corporate accountability. 💬 Let's discuss below! #FashionTransparency #SustainableFashion #EURegulations #IndustryEvolution

To restore faith, transparency and traceability are key. Legislative shifts like the New York Fashion Act and EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive underscore this urgency. Achieving this demands the core elements: 1. Building and nurturing relationships with open dialogue across the supply chain. 2. Leveraging new, innovative technology for real-time monitoring and tracking. 3. Fostering collaboration and partnerships – because no one can make the necessary changes alone.
