What is UP Outdoorsy Bosses! Check out our Company Culture episode 2, as we share ways to incentivize staff and promote internal competition so they naturally aspire to excel amongst their peers. Motivate your employees with goals you set as an owner. Make these available weekly or monthly. Setting up internal competitions provides a fun, game-like atmosphere, celebrate their successes during each company meeting. Pictured is Kevin's landscape contracting business where employees would vote on whom they thought provided the most effort and value for the team and company during that month. Behind them you see a crew competition board where crews race to win the monthly top score. These were scores of their work given by managers whom graded each crew's property jobs each week. Customers whom praised a particular crew or individual we celebrated by creating the 'Complimen-Tree' on left- where crews would place their crew colored leaf onto this tree to populate the most praises each month. The company culture was to have multiple ways in which ALL employees could become engaged and make a difference, winning prizes, time off, etc to feel apart of the company growth. As hosts Liz Disterhoft and I had a front-row seat to witness transformation unfold before our eyes in this company’s team building FIREWALK experience. My favorite moment in this video? Witnessing a team member who had initially declared "Absolutely not for me" do a spontaneous happy dance after conquering the fire (for his SECOND time) 😉. That's the magic of firewalks – breaking down barriers, defying expectations, and fostering a sense of unity and accomplishment. But the real magic happens beyond the flames. Back in the workplace, you’ll see the ripple effects of this shared experience. Communication will become more open, collaboration will flourish, and trust among team members will reach new heights. In a bustling workplace like ours at Sevenstep, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind, focusing solely on the tasks at hand. But some of the most valuable moments happen when we take a step back and intentionally create opportunities to interact in new ways. Today was one of those moments. On the day of the NFL Draft (Go Bears!), we hosted our own annual Buddy Draft – a live draft that randomly pairs people together for a year of new connections, fostering friendships and fun over new experiences or shared interests. Jim Becker and Natalie Scheiman knocked it out of the park, leading us through the Draft – costumes, banter and all. As a leader, I'm passionate about making room for serendipitous encounters – moments where individuals from different teams come together, perhaps over a cup of tea, cooking class or city tour. These seemingly small interactions may not directly relate to our bottom line, but they form the fabric of our company culture, weaving bonds that transcend job titles and departments. By carving out time like this, we create a workplace where people feel valued, understood and, most importantly, happy. And a happy team is not only better positioned to deliver exceptional service to our clients but also more likely to stay with us for the long haul. Here's to fostering a culture of connection, one smile, one conversation, one friendship at a time.

Tomorrow is National Dog Day, and we could not pass up the opportunity to acknowledge Buddy, one of the most tenured members of the Wainger Group family. In celebration of this day, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on some of the many great lessons Buddy has taught us. In this case, these are lessons about how to promote workplace harmony. Ultimately, living with a dog is about building a relationship. Forging that relationship requires a desire to understand and be understood; a commitment to clarity and accountability, guidance to correct less-than-stellar performance, and appropriate acknowledgement and praise for a job well done. What lessons have you learned from the 'Buddy' in your life?

Think success is 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 about hard work? 🤔   (It’s also about how you celebrate it) 🥳💃🥂   We know that our recent achievements and milestones at Cleancorp are the direct result of team's dedication and relentless effort.    So, what did we do?  We stepped away from our desks and came together for a beautiful work lunch at Sails on Lavender Bay.   But it felt like anything but ‘work’.    Here's the thing: When your workplace genuinely feels like a family, well... work doesn't feel like "work".   We know the word 'family' gets thrown around a lot in corporate settings.    And let’s be honest… 'family' is often used to label team unity without actually putting in the work to create real connections. But when you celebrate each other, share stories, and build stronger connections,    It doesn’t feel like a work event – it feels like a gathering of friends.   So, here’s what last Friday reminded us of:   👉 That we win together as a team.   👉 We absolutely own it, day in and day out, when it comes to work  👉 Our leadership is collaborative, rather than from the top down We cherish these opportunities to come together to not only highlight, but most of all, celebrate the people we "win together" with.

The leaves are changing, the weather is getting chilly, balloons will fill the New Mexico skies, and Halloween is around the corner. Which means it is officially October, but to Molzen Corbin and other ESOP's, it means that it is Employee-Ownership month! As an employee-owned company, we will be posting throughout the month to recognize our employees and all the impressive work they do. When I joined Take a Seat, one of the biggest things that was a non-negotiable for me was a great company culture.   Culture is everything here. We're not just coworkers, we're friends too. We laugh, we learn, and we crush goals together.   We believe in work hard, play hard. We're serious about our jobs, but we also know how to unwind. Whether it's team outings like today where we will be celebrating birthdays or just hanging out, we've always got each other's backs.   Everyone here has a voice. We're all about open communication and fresh ideas. No egos, just people passionate about what we do.   A strong team culture is the foundation of our success. It's what brings us together, drives innovation, and ultimately really makes me look forward to coming into work each day.   How important is a company culture to you?

Update: It's the last day of the competitive clothing drive. At the end of last week, our team (the Spoons) was falling behind and had dropped to the second spot. We gave each other a rallying pep talk, shared some words of encouragement and WOW check out that Monday/Tuesday pile of clothes around the Spoons table (far right, light blue). I love the teamwork mentality we have at Blue Compass. We all pitch in and work together toward our shared vision (which in this case is most definitely winning). In fact, this whole clothing drive is possible because of our team mentality. Any given year we have 8-12 crews that people can sign up for if they are interested in helping plan and organize events, holidays, etc. It gives everyone the chance to dedicate a little extra time to their favorite things, and build camaraderie with their peers who share common interests. The clothing drive was put on by our fabulous "Moral Compass" crew, formerly known as the volunteer crew. Would you be surprised if I told you that they have three creatives on their team?
