It seems a rare thing to this day to find a company who sees finding joy at work as a huge contributor to business success. This is sad, really, because business leaders should realize that employees will not stay and do their best at a job with an abstract goal of helping the company succeed. They will only do that if underlying it is a love for the job or career that brings them joy. When leaders get blinded by a belief that focusing on tasks every minute of every day at work is the only way to do business right, they start to see their employees as less than human, with each one having a unique and complex set of needs, wants and motivations. Unhappy employees won’t stay, especially when managers and leaders care for nothing beyond metrics and KPIs. “In any team environment, joy arises from a combination of harmony, impact, and acknowledgment…”
While many expect to feel joy at work, few actually do.

Senior Clinical Program Consultant at Optum, program/project/product management, strategy, leadership development and culture champion. I streamline processes to optimize efficiency and profitability.
This really illustrates the need for connecting an organization’s why with the work. It also shows the need to really acknowledge and celebrate small wins and show appreciation for the people behind them, not just the success. People want to feel valued for who they are and what part they play in accomplishing the company’s mission. Culture needs to be invested in. It absolutely matters. If organizations fail to provide positivity, appreciation and support to their employees, they will continue to lose passionate employees that will find that connection elsewhere. Everyone plays a role in culture. It’s not just an organization’s responsibility. Spread positivity and it will grow.

🤗 #Joy is essential to living a fulfilled life! When we don’t experience joy on a regular basis, our personal and professional morale can take a big hit! 😄 Humans naturally seek out ways to engage in joy. Whether we watch our favorite sports team win a championship, go to a funny movie or comedian, or getting ourselves out into nature, we need joy in our lives. Bringing joy and laughter into your company can boost engagement, retention, and mental health. ☺️ Leaders who actively bring joy and comrade into their organization, and who create an uplifting culture, are far more likely to retain employees who stay within the organization and continue to strengthen it from the inside out! #employeeengagement #organizationalculture #positiveworkplaces Sara K. This year I’m making a distinct effort to schedule face to face time with my Americas Services colleagues across the country. While the airport may be my second home now, I am energized by these in person interactions. Seeing the incredible work my teams are spearheading in emerging markets and the innovative ideas and solutions they provide our clients makes the frequent travel worth it. Beyond that, I am grateful to have the opportunity to further my relationships with my colleagues and our clients. When there’s so much work to be done, it can be easy to focus in at our desk with limited personal interaction. If my experiences this year have shown me anything, it’s that the value of real, human connection cannot be understated. Learning more about our colleagues and clients beyond our shared business goals opens the door to opportunity, both professionally and personally. I recognize that getting on a plane every time we want to have these moments isn’t realistic, but there are many other ways to strengthen our relationships. I like to schedule regular phone calls with built in time for personal catch up or send a handwritten note to let others know I appreciate their partnership. These moments have become a part of my routine that truly fulfills me. Regardless of how we do it, we need to connect with others and do so with care. We can accomplish so much when we feel supported and heard in our day-to-day work. How will you find connection? #CRE #leadership #culture
