Culture: The Secret Sauce of Thriving Communities ️ Imagine a community garden brimming with life, not just plants, but laughter, shared stories, and traditions passed down through generations. That's the magic of culture and community development working in tandem. Culture isn't just pretty decorations; it's the soul of a community. It weaves a tapestry of shared values, customs, and stories that bind people together, fueling a sense of belonging and purpose. ✨ Here's how cultural development strengthens communities: 🔻Boosts identity and pride: Celebrating local traditions fosters a sense of shared identity, attracting and retaining residents. 🔻Empowers residents: When communities take ownership of their culture, they become active participants in shaping their future. 🔻Attracts investment and tourism: Vibrant cultural scenes draw visitors and businesses, injecting vitality into the local economy. 🔻Builds bridges and understanding: Cultural exchange sparks dialogue and breaks down barriers, creating more inclusive and cohesive communities. Community development, in turn, nurtures culture: 🔻Provides platforms for expression: Investing in arts spaces, festivals, and workshops gives culture a voice and a stage. 🔻Preserves heritage: Community initiatives safeguard traditions and knowledge for future generations. 🔻Promotes innovation: Blending traditional practices with new ideas fuels cultural evolution and resilience. The takeaway? Investing in both community and cultural development creates a virtuous cycle. Strong communities embrace their unique character, attracting resources and talent that further strengthen their cultural fabric. Together, they build places where people thrive, not just survive. #communitydevelopment #culturaldevelopment #sustainablecommunities #livelocal #diversityandinclusion

Regenerative development | Redesigning tourism from the ground up | Building resilient places|The Tourism CoLab & Communiversity | Local2030 Islands Network |
There are small but growing number of inspiring businesses that are exploring what #regeneration means for #places and #communities. After all, thriving places, with interesting businesses, are good places to visit. It is clear that local business champions are activating their places with ground-up, creative, and inclusive initiatives. They facilitate clear, tangible and immediate benefits to communities and create opportunities to host in genuinely regenerative ways. Small wins build the momentum and confidence to continue the journey. These actions build social capital and contribute to local wellbeing - essential ingredients for #ThrivingPlaces. It's where local business ecosystems and communities actively engage in their futures. Right now, there is a great opportunity to redesign tourism businesses to address the issue of social license and to make a positive contribution to the social, economic and natural ecosystems that sustain them. The point is that the #wellbeing of people, place and nature is a business problem. So how can we reimagine business so that it makes a contribution? We need the courage to think differently, to open our minds, and to explore possibilities that are not built on hidden assumptions and old thinking. This is business for a different, creative, and innovative future. We are launching a different kind of business development journey in the #TourismCoLab. Connecting with a global cohort in a process of unlearning, exploring, imagining and activating, we're on a mission to reskill and retool for the future entrepreneurs and leaders. It's for curious, and creative businesses, organisations and community groups. #AlignedValues #RegenerativeDevelopment #CreativeThinking #Tourism #Localisation #CommunityBuilding #Cohort #Learning #Education #AlternativeThinking #LocalEconomies #Activation #Place #Community #Destination #Planning #TourismFutures More information: https://lnkd.in/gegnDv8T

There are many inspiring initiatives that explore what #regeneration means for #places and #communities. After all, thriving places are good places to visit. It is clear that local champions are activating their places with ground-up, creative, and inclusive initiatives. They facilitate clear, tangible and immediate benefits to communities and create opportunities to host in genuinely regenerative ways. Small wins build the momentum and confidence to continue the journey. These actions build social capital and contribute to wellbeing - essential ingredients for #ThrivingPlaces. It's where communities actively engage in their futures. However, lately, there appears to be a resurgence of interest in overtourism, carrying capacity and caps. These issues are closely related to #SocialLicence and environmental/planetary limits. It seems that addressing social licence and environmental limits is much too hard and too uncertain if a notional quick policy fix is sought. #CarryingCapacity is the quick fix to the wrong problem. Carrying capacity is a number which is unlikely to ever secure community consent. It's just always going to be too controversial if history tells us anything. Social license, on the other hand, requires deeper engagement and a commitment to recognising communities as equal partners in the future. Right now, the key question to ask is "What is the real issue I am trying to solve here?" HINT: The real issue is never going to be to identify the 'right' number. The real issue is to identify pathways and actions so that the social, cultural, political and ecological values of a place can be restored and regenerated. The #wellbeing of people, place and nature is a state of being, not a number. Drawing from lived experience, local knowledge are essential inputs into those conversations. We should not be looking back into the old bag of tools that has not worked in the past. (That was Einstein's definition of insanity!) We need the courage to think differently, to open our minds, and to explore possibilities that are not built on hidden assumptions and old thinking. This is courageous leadership for a different, creative, and innovative future. To answer this need, we are launching a different kind of leadership journey in the #TourismCoLab. Connecting with a global cohort in a process of unlearning, exploring, imagining and activating, we're on a mission to reskill and retool for the future leaders we need. It's for the free-thinking, curious, and creative among us (or those who wish to escape from a system and who would like to innovate!) #AlignedValues #RegenerativeDevelopment #CreativeThinking #Tourism #Localisation #CommunityBuilding #Cohort #Learning #Education #AlternativeThinking #LocalEconomies #Activation #Place #Community #Destination #Planning #TourismFutures #CouragetoLead More information: https://lnkd.in/gNJqQeAG

❓ Why should understanding their position in society matter to a transit hub? ❓ And how can knowing this help improve every aspect of its efficiency? When considering social placemaking – the intentional design and curation of a space to promote a sense of community and belonging – a venue should first consider the impact of building a more welcoming environment. In our most recent blog post, we explore the impact of social placemaking ideals and how GoodMaps can help venues to become dynamic and sustainable hubs. 📃 https://hubs.li/Q02qM8PV0 #MappingTheFuture #SocialPlacemaking #SustainableTravel #tech4good — Also, don’t forget to check out the video on our partnership with Port of Portland, which highlights the ever-present need to consider a venue’s impact on all of society. ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

I am excited to be attending a discussion tonight at the NYIT De Seversky Mansion, focusing on technology and economic development initiatives on Long Island. I believe in the power of innovation to drive economic growth. This topic is not just important to me personally, but also aligns closely with my business interests. Long Island has immense potential to thrive in the industries of the 21st century, but we need make significant strides NOW to catch up with other regions that have already made smart investments and are reaping substantial benefits as a result. Tonight, I hope to brainstorm and strategize on how we can propel Long Island forward, positioning our communities as hotbeds of innovation and economic prosperity. From nurturing local talent to fostering collaboration between academia and industry, there's a lot of stuff that needs to be done and the time is now. I will share thoughts and look to my Linkedin friends to share opportunities to collaborate with Long Island, one of the best places in the world. #LongIsland #Technology #EconomicDevelopment #Innovation #Collaboration
