👩🔧👩🔬👷♀️Happy International Women in Engineering Day (for yesterday)! 👩🏫👩💻👩🏭 Women are still hugely underrepresented within Engineering and unfortunately in 2023, the numbers dropped to just 15.7% (a decrease of ~38,000 women). A key part of the puzzle is representation, demonstrating to the next generation that an engineering career could be for them and also that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. We are seeing more and more women leave their engineering careers from the age of 35. It’s speculative as to why this is but it seems obvious to consider that personal life must have a big impact. I was told from very early on in my career that I could not have a family whilst also focusing on developing my engineering career. That was absolutely incorrect. I am now Head of Engineering with a team of over 50 engineers, whilst managing a young family. Is it difficult? Absolutely. Is it achievable? Of course! Let’s use #INWED as an opportunity to celebrate the amazing women in engineering who are the role models for the next generation. Together we can make a positive impact 👏 #WomenInEngineering #STEM #RoleModel

Before we take off for the Midsummer celebrations and holiday, we would like to take note of the upcoming International Women in Engineering Day on June 23rd. To join in on this important day, we at EWB-SWE would like to acknowledge the many incredible women engineers in or around our organisation. These women make significant contributions to change and development in Sweden and around the world. They are also true inspirations and role models for other women and girls considering a career in the STEM field or becoming engineers. We will lift a few of their stories the coming weekend, so keep your eyes open! What is International Women in Engineering Day? International Women in Engineering Day, arranged by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), is celebrating its 11th year. The mission is to promote the incredible work that women engineers across the globe do every day. This year’s theme is #Enhancedbyengineering, highlighting the work that enhances people’s everyday lives and helps build a brighter future. INWED strives to give women engineers around the world a profile, as women are still hugely under-represented in the engineering field. In the UK, for example, only 16.5% of engineers are women, while in Sweden, it's 29%. The INWED platform plays an important role in encouraging more young women and girls to pursue engineering careers. At EWB-SWE, we have increased equality and inclusion as key focus areas, and we strongly support the efforts of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), Womengineer, Girls in STEM, openhack - coding for humanity and many, many other organisations that work towards this important issue. Read more about the activities arranged by INWED24 on the link below! Welcome to share the stories of other women engineers you would like to highlight, using the hashtag #INWED24. https://www.inwed.org.uk/ #engineerswithoutborders #ewbswe #ewbsweden #EngineeringForHumanity #HumanitarianEngineering

Celebrating Women in Engineering Every Day (Even After #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay) While I'm a bit late to the party (International Women in Engineering Day was on June 23rd!), that doesn't diminish my pride in being an engineer, especially as a mum! University threw some serious curveballs, especially during the foundation year as the only woman. Let's just say some classmates underestimated me based on gender. But guess what? It only fueled my determination to succeed. Even the professional world can feel unbalanced. There aren't enough women engineers, and leadership positions are still mostly held by men. But that's exactly why we need to keep excelling! Celebrating #WomenInEngineering reminds us of the progress we've made, but also the work that remains. Through our perseverance and talent, we'll achieve true equality and transform the industry. Being a mum adds another layer to the challenge, but it also makes the achievements even sweeter. We're juggling responsibilities, breaking barriers, and inspiring the next generation – all at the same time! So, here's to all the amazing women engineers out there, especially the mums! Let's keep breaking barriers and inspiring the next generation.

On Sunday, we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day. I am very happy that to mark this important day, the team behind ABB Review has put together a special report with a great collection of articles authored by women. I am hopeful that this special edition will encourage more women to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). I am also delighted to have been given the opportunity to guest edit this special edition. I believe that increasing diversity in STEM education and careers is a crucial component of understanding the needs of customers and fosters innovation - clearly customers are diverse, and to fully support them we must understand their world. Engineering is like every other field, it is not reserved for one gender. If you like it, just go for it, you will be able to excel in it and to have a large variety of growth and career opportunities. In this field, there are very exciting topics to work on that are crucial to help make our lives easier and more comfortable as well as our society more sustainable. Happy International Women in Engineering Day! It’s so exciting to see that the number of women in STEM is steadily growing. And happy reading: https://ow.ly/Xflg50SmZyX #WomenInEngineeringDay #WomenInSTEM #ABB #MeasurementAndAnalytics

How do women in engineering contribute to societal progress? Women in engineering have a profound impact on societal progress globally. Here’s my thoughts on how and why: 𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Women bring unique perspectives to engineering teams, fostering creativity and innovative solutions. Different genders, different minds – together, we achieve extraordinary results! 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 Female engineers serve as inspiring role models and mentors, motivating more young women to pursue STEM careers. Our girls look up to us – let's lead for ourselves and their futures! 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 Increasing the number of women in engineering boosts economic growth by expanding the talent pool and enhancing productivity. Gender-diverse teams perform better financially – and who doesn't want that? 𝙀𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 Women engineers often emphasise inclusive design, ensuring products, technologies, and buildings are accessible to people of diverse abilities and backgrounds. This leads to more equitable and user-friendly innovations, addressing a broader range of societal needs and challenges. Our contributions are shaping a better society and we need to keep on this upwards trajectory! #Energipeople #WomenInEngineering #Diversity #Equality #EngineeringExcellence

✨ Today marks the start of our Women in Engineering themed week over on our website! ✨ Throughout the entirety of this week - to tie in with International Women in Engineering Day - The Engineer UK is focusing on the industry’s ongoing efforts to close the gender gap and celebrating the role played by female engineers. "Along with the need to inspire more young people to consider a career in engineering, attracting more women into the profession remains one of industry’s most enduring and intractable skills challenges," commented Jon Excell, editor and publisher of The Engineer. "The equation is a simple one: in the face of a widening skills gap, half of the population are still woefully underrepresented in the UK’s engineering workforce. "Despite the progress, there’s still much to do: from removing some of the bottlenecks preventing or deterring women from re-entering the workplace after maternity leave to understanding and addressing some of the societal issues that see girls - who massively outperform boys in STEM subjects at GCSE level - move away from physical sciences as they go into A-levels. "There are many practical measures and interventions that can help shift the dial, but alongside this it’s vital that we continue to hammer away at the stereotypes, to celebrate the achievements of women engineers and remind women and girls of the incredible opportunities available to them, which is why events like this month’s International Women in Engineering Day (23rd June) are so important." Be sure to keep up with our INWED content on our website 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehkNFDzS #theengineer #INWED24 #WomenInEngineering #WomenInSTEM

Happy International Women in Engineering Day to all the smart and hardworking women engineers! Project Engineer Tania Bobby has worked in the field for over four years. "It can feel intimidating for those interested in engineering to explore this amazing career because women may think it's not for them since they don’t see enough representation," she says. "Women in Engineering Day showcases and celebrates women in engineering and their contributions and highlights the importance of #diversity in a field that thrives on diverse ideas and creative solutions to today’s problems," she explains. "This event creates a space for conversation between those considering engineering and current engineers they can relate to on a more personal level. Having that kind of representation makes the idea of becoming an #engineer feel attainable. Creating that atmosphere and providing that encouragement is why I believe “Women in Engineering Day” is important," she states. #WomenInEngineering #WomenEngineers Read more about how our engineers help others in their projects: https://ow.ly/1iGq50Sb3zC

1moI applaud the recognition that Summit Utilities, as a whole, makes publicly to those within their organization. Having been a very dedicated employee, who has recently voluntarily separated from Summit, it is only a shame that they do not hold the same values internally with their employees.
