I shared a post previously on how Video directors need to have an understanding of every area of production, and I receive DMs on how they can go about it, I decided to share some of my advice here. Directors can gain a basic understanding of every aspect of production by immersing themselves in the filmmaking process, learning from experienced professionals, and studying resources like books, online courses, and tutorials. Building a foundation in areas such as cinematography, lighting, sound, editing, and storytelling will help directors effectively communicate their vision to their team and make informed decisions throughout the production. Collaborating with experts in each field and actively participating in hands-on experiences can further enhance their knowledge and capabilities Do you also have advice on this topic, please share.

🔥 This is just a quick sequence of Frames from a project - 100th First Italian Grand Prix Anniversary" - I've had been doing thanks to Giovanni Grossi, back to few years ago. Check the HRC official page for the full edit 🔥 When I got a call from my friend and partner in crime Giovanni Grossi at that time it was just: " Are you down for a 3 days event, it'll be packed of historical classic cars, motorbikes, planes and so much fun" what would you have answered...? so here we are. early mornings and sunrises, my birthday in between and such a cool vibe for three days on. 🏎️ This is what have been to us the 100th Anniversary of the official First Italian Grand Prix, a (now) classic car race that established the history in what we now know as grand prix challenges back a century ago. it was 2021 and we where thrilled of coming back shooting events, being surrounded by passioned people, grabbing the best shots we can out of this race. 💽 I've been now digging into my old drives to bring to light to a lot of projects I haven't the chance to before, either for time, NDAs, etc... 🔍 This project pointed out how, even being in a small sized crew, our ability of adapt and being dynamic made the difference; when you can't control what's happening you may just end up doing a sort of reportage, instead of working on the cinematography of the video. ✅ So testing the route before the event was crucial to spot the few stops we may do on the way, or having a detailed program of the event to prioritize what was a MUST to be shot and what could be "sacrificed". 💻This ended up in a full rich event short doc that surprised the client in terms of - image quality - richness in contents - storytelling ⚙️ I've since then on worked on including storytelling more and more, cause I think that the difference is in what is felt by watching a video, the emotions you may feel (either good or bad ones); you may not remember an exact scene but you may remember the feeling you had, the song played cause maybe it's something you're connected to.

Filmmaking lenses 🎥 🎬 The number of lenses used during the filming process will vary depending on the length and style of the feature. While some filmmakers may want a mix of wide-angle and zoomed-in views, others may prefer to use a standard-sized image throughout the film. 🎬 Here are some of the most popular cine lenses and their uses: 📹 Wide-angle [24mm – 35mm focal length] ✔ Wide-angle lenses have a short focal length and produce wide pictures. Filmmakers frequently utilize these lenses to capture stunning landscapes or as much background detail as possible. 📹 Standard [35mm – 70mm focal length] ✔ Standard lenses give images that are similar to those seen with the human eye. While 35mm lenses are particularly popular among film directors, 50mm lenses offer a diverse alternative for all filmmakers. In addition to reducing visual distortion, 500mm lenses are ideal for shooting lifelike video that flatters humans. 📹 Telephoto [70mm – 300m focal length] ✔ Telephoto lenses compress and amplify even the smallest elements in an image. Telephoto lenses, also called long lenses, are less frequent than normal and wide-angle lenses. These lenses are often used for large-set productions or to capture detailed location shots. 📹 Anamorphic [40mm – 100mm focal length] ✔ Anamorphic lenses have super-wide aspect ratios for capturing a large field of view. They work by changing the size of an image along one axis, cramming as much footage as possible onto a small sensor.
