You probably aren't in the 8%. The University of Scranton found that most adults never reach their goals. Why? Goals are out that's why. Goals take you into the future and create a gap of lack between what you want and experiencing it. So 92% of adults do not believe that their goals are achievable. Many are simply living in the streams of others' dreams. I know this to be true for myself here is a raw experience of mine. I was raised to believe that this world was going to end before I made it to high school. I lived under the beliefs and dreams of my parents and what they bought into. For most of my life, I based my goals and actions on the vision that nothing matters in this life. Just to survive was good enough let alone thrive. My dreams from childhood have been to travel the world, relate to cultures, and explore all things mystic and curious about this planet and life. I took back my dreams and harnessed the power of them. Einstein said, "Dreams/Imagination is more important than knowledge." It's our power and most of us are unaware that we are living others dreams and feel powerless and childish to go back to our imagination. Here are two things that helped me start the journey into my powerful imagination. 🧘♂️ Quitely sit each morning for just five minutes with this question: ✨ What would my ideal life look and feel like? However, as we grow into adulthood, the realities of life set in. We come to understand that becoming an astronaut or a basketball star isn't always feasible. Our focus shifts to the practicalities—paying bills, planning for retirement, and navigating the complexities of everyday life. Our childhood aspirations often take a back seat to more immediate concerns. Yet, beneath the surface, those childhood dreams were never solely about the professions themselves. They were about the desire to succeed, to achieve, and to experience the fulfillment that comes with reaching our goals. The essence of those dreams—those feelings and experiences—are still within our grasp, even if the paths we envisioned as children differ from the ones we walk as adults. Own Your Story We can all agree that our childhood experiences, to a large extent, shape who we are today. The way we navigate our professional journeys often mirrors the impact of our early years. While conventional wisdom suggests that challenging childhoods have a universally negative impact on adulthood, it's important to recognize that not all difficult experiences should be viewed in a negative light. For instance, my story is shaped by having a brilliant and widely admired older sister, Patty. Instead of viewing living in her shadow as a setback, it fueled a lifelong motivation in me to prove my intelligence and earn respect. Some may see this as a hindrance, but I firmly believe in embracing and owning your story. I attribute a lot of my success in life to the fact that I felt I had to keep up with my amazing sister to be seen. What a gift that was! It drove me to do more, learn more and be more! It's commonly asserted that what served us as children may hold us back as adults. However, I respectfully disagree. Some behaviors developed in childhood continue to be advantageous in adulthood, especially if we fine-tune the volume on those behaviors as we mature. Remember, understanding and embracing our narratives can lead to personal and professional growth. As we journey through #life, we’re often too caught up in the whirlwind of adulthood - the responsibilities, the challenges, the relentless pursuit of our dreams - that we rarely stop to ponder about the past. 🌀 And I'm not referring to the past of a year or two ago. Rather, I'm talking about the distant past when we were children, when the world was a vast playground 🌍, and our dreams were painted with the boundless strokes of #innocence and wonder. The question we're diving into is: What would the child you once were, think of the adult you have become? In those early years, many of us had grand #plans.
