Did you know that Starbucks had made a lot of interesting and successful partnership deals with many popular brands? In its growing era, Starbucks partnered with Kraft Foods and Arla Foods to extend its brand presence to grocery stores worldwide. It had also partnered with Barnes & Noble for a presence in its bookstores. Starbucks has partnership deals with PepsiCo and Nestle to help market and sell their Starbucks RTD (Ready-to-drink) beverages like Starbucks Refreshers, Starbucks Discoveries, and Starbucks Frappuccino beverages in various locations around the world. Interestingly, Starbucks and Spotify are quite popular partners that have a strong win-win strategy. Starbucks customers had been offered free access to Spotify Premium, which is still offered to all of Starbucks’ employees even today. Spotify also features a dedicated Starbucks playlist on its mobile app. Standing true to its brand values, Starbucks has been in partnership with Arizona State University for a long time to help facilitate educational opportunities for all of its employees. How do you make a great ad? Sometimes its the strategy/idea... But execution might matter more. 😬 Starbucks and The Coca-Cola Company created ads with the same brand strategy: show how their drinks take a moment from blah to positive, colorful, and fun. The Coke version is uplifting and fun. The Starbucks one feels... flat. Cheesy. Corporate. It's the same idea - so what happened? I broke down the differences on my blog. tl;dr: Coke focused less on the product, and more on the benefit (feeling good) which has the unexpected result of selling the product better. Starbucks created a product montage set to music - which meant the products got more airtime, but no payoff (why do I want these products?). Coke also built in more aspiration, and simply crafted the ad better (music, visuals, casting).
