IT isn't an industry anymore. Back in olden, pre-ChatGPT days (2021), Bain observed that "Technology Isn't Just an Industry Anymore. It's Everything." Now, IT/Tech isn't an industry at all. It's just the way value is created. I think about this whenever I get emails pitching me a "list of IT buyers" How quaint that seems. IT used to be a narrow corporate discipline. Most other corporate disciplines used to be clients of IT. Today tech is deeply embedded in every business function. Beyond that, with AI, arguably, tech is now eating every business function. The maturity of tech means we need to be more rigorous about understanding who we are creating solutions for, who the buyer is, what their real felt problem is, what their journey is to make a buying decision.
