A New Look at the Resilient Design of Homes in Southern Brazil: A Simple and Sustainable Approach Dear colleagues and wooden construction enthusiasts. I am excited to share part of the study I'm conducting on methods for building simple wooden houses on flat land. My studies aim to obtain opportunities to work on wooden and woodframe house projects, anywhere, inside or outside Brazil. In the architectural scene of southern Brazil, another project study appears to explore the essence of simple houses destined for the countryside, highlighting the intelligent use of pine wood. This type of housing, which combines functionality and simplicity, has deep roots in local culture and is now being revisited with a contemporary look. #woodhouse #wood #woodframe

This design presents a building with fluid, organic curves, breaking away from the conventional rectilinear architecture commonly seen in urban environments. The concept emphasizes biophilia, as evidenced by the integration of verdant terraces throughout the structure, which not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also promote environmental sustainability and provide potential benefits such as air purification and temperature regulation. The sweeping balconies with abundant plant life create private outdoor spaces for occupants, potentially fostering a closer connection to nature despite the urban context. The building's façade combines transparency with natural wood accents, contributing to an open and inviting atmosphere while also blending modern design with organic elements. At street level, the transparent walls suggest a public interface, possibly for retail or cultural spaces, which enhances the building's community integration. This approach to design not only prioritizes ecological aspects but also user well-being, aiming to create a harmonious and health-oriented environment for both residents and the surrounding community.

When we first approached this site in Brent, our research uncovered that all buildings on this piece of land has taken the form of a warehouse for over 100 years. This led us to question: Rather than oppose, how could we best utilise this historic form for living? The result? Nine dwellings and a new commercial unit incorporated into a low-slung building that complements the rich, mixed character of the area. Light is drawn into the residences via a number of courtyards, rooflights and clerestory windows. Inside, traditional room arrangements are flipped upside down, with raised terraces that extend straight out of the living rooms. The internal and external walls align which dissolves the barriers inside and outside, creating a seamless spatial experience. A green roof adds to the sensation of living within a landscape while at the same time privacy is retained for all the occupants. New Planning Consent: A new Ascot Design has been approved in Sevenoaks, Kent, within the Metropolitan Green Belt and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside the adjacent Ivy Hatch Conservation Area. The consent covers a traditionally styled new family residence with a basement, poolhouse, entrance gates, parking with turning space, and landscaping. Our clients desired a home reflective of their taste and contemporary lifestyles, and ways of using their interior and exterior spaces. The appearance of the existing property is outdated and the layout has an irregular footprint owing to numerous historical extensions. Additionally, the driveway and parking are too narrow for modern vehicles. Our team developed a design that managed to consolidate the built form by 11%, aligning with Green Belt development principles, while increasing the interior floor space by 46%. To accommodate our clients' taste for their bespoke home, we took their desire for classical styling and suggested materials that align with the local architecture and enhance the design of the village setting. Adding plants and trees into walls, interior design, roofs, and landscaping Using natural light and skylights Breaking down the barrier between inside and outside, via sliding doors and balconies Introducing water features Encouraging wildlife, particularly insects and small birds Biophilic design is a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions. Used at both the building and city-scale, it is argued that this idea has health, environmental, and economic benefits for building occupants and urban environments, with few drawbacks. Although its name was coined in recent history, indicators of biophilic design have been seen in architecture from as far back as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. While the design features that characterize Biophilic design were all traceable in preceding sustainable design guidelines, the new term sparked wider interest and lent academic credibility.
