How do we build a better future? Design it. When our Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Perry, isn't busy COO-ing, he's teaching Design Strategy at the University of Utah—a course he co-created. Check out his recap on the semester, where he guides and motivates students to harness the power of design as a unique force for solving complex problems. bit.ly/4chrz0b #DesignThinking #Design #Innovation #HumanCenteredDesign

Design Thinking Gets a Speculative Twist: Using Black Mirror to Spark Innovation Design thinking is a popular method for creative problem-solving. But Jung Kyung Seo, Neharika Makam; Summer Jung, PhD, Kim Seoyoung; and Kim Sohyeong from Stanford University and the University of California, San Diego explore how speculative design, inspired by shows like Black Mirror, can enhance this process (ICED23, Proceedings: DS 122). https://lnkd.in/gR5x5Xg3 Join the "Design is a Team Sport" movement at ICED25 Dallas! How can we ensure that innovation benefits society? Share your thoughts on the role of speculative design in responsible development and the importance of considering the bigger picture. I am so sad to miss this. "How can we advance positive change on complex challenges? Human-centered design offers useful and powerful tools, and it is not enough. A design practice needs to integrate various methods to be most effective. In particular, for the social sector, we believe integrating human-centered, systems-minded, strategy-aligned, and equity-driven approaches can create greater impact." YES! RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM: DESIGN JUSTICE - 15 JANUARY “What is the relationship between design, power, and social justice?” On 2020, Sasha Costanza-Chock published “Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the Worlds We Need”. This book highlights the importance of rethinking design and engineering in a way that explicitly challenges structural injustices, based on the design practices of different oppressed communities and social movements around the world. At TU Delft, an interdisciplinary reading group studied the Design Justice framework and discussed the main tools and experiences that Costanza-Chock introduced. Now, connecting to the Delft Design for Values Institute annual theme of Justice, we want to take the chance to present our reflections and explore what this book can offer to designers in the quest for more just design processes and results. Aarón Moreno Inglés (PhD candidate at TPM) will lead this colloquium, in which we will delve into the Design Justice framework, its potentialities, pitfalls, its openings for further research, and the ways in which we could implement it in our current projects.
