Today is our annual ACEC Washington conference with WSDOT with many excellent topics and speakers. A special thank you to Rep. Andrew Barkis, Ranking Member on the House Transportation Committee, for coming and sharing his thoughts on the transportation outlook in Washington State. It is clearly an exciting and challenging time we are entering, but also an opportunity to demonstrate that communication, relationships, leadership, and solid engineering create solutions and overcome hurdles.

Sub-standard maintenance is so often a cause of an Operator being called to Public Inquiry. “Guidance” (misguidance?) by some maintenance providers, either misleading or simply confusing the unwary and/or unkowledgable Operator so often causes so much more harm than good… It’s great to see pro-active steps being taken to try to improve regulation of maintenance generally, with a view to protecting all involved in the industry and beyond. The inaugural meeting of the BAA Maintenance Group was held this week and was a huge success, with valuable input provided by all participants. Various transport-related maintenance issues were identified for our specialist sector vehicles, and it was great to have such a talented group coming together for the first time to help improve standards across our industry.
