Today is Wear Your Life Jacket At Work Day! U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in four out of every five recreational boating fatalities, and that 75 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. There are many options for boaters when it comes to choosing a life jacket. When selecting a life jacket, a boater should check that it is U.S. Coast Guard approved, appropriate for the water activity, and fits properly. #WearYourLifejacketAtWorkDay #WaterSafetyMonth #HopeFloats

During this hike, I kept thinking to myself, "It's amazing that my family has so many nature spots close to our home." Access to the trail was only a short drive away! My family experienced nature, bonded, exercised, and returned home within a few hours. Did it take a bit of hunting to find it? Yes. But compared to planning a camping trip several hours away, finding local hikes is a piece of cake. Oftentimes in our career, we focus on those big positive career moves—the difficult moves that take years to implement. And don't get me wrong, it's great to have a long-term strategy in place. But don't forget to look for the hidden gems right around the corner. #careertransition #johnpackercoaching #careercoaching

As the boating season kicks off in the upper Midwest (Yes...our season is short), we're reminded of the approaching Memorial Day weekend and the significance it holds in honoring the brave women and men who sacrificed their lives while serving our country. Let's keep their memory close to heart as we enjoy this time with family and friends. Long weekends offer a great opportunity to head out onto the water and make cherished memories. Here are a few gentle reminders to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience: 1. Stay proactive with your boat maintenance. By addressing any issues ahead of time, you can help alleviate the strain on local dealerships, who often face a surge in last-minute requests. 2. Don't forget to wear your life jacket. From May 18-24, we observe Wear Your Life Jacket at Work Day/Week, emphasizing the importance of water safety. 3. Familiarize yourself with both local and federal regulations to ensure compliance and a smooth experience. Above all, prioritize safety while having fun out on the water. Here's to a wonderful and safe boating season ahead! #BoatingSafety #MemorialDay #WaterFun

Recently, I've started to get back into boating...specifically sailboat racing. It was an activity I did a lot of before COVID...and then life got extra busy. I decided it was time to invest in a PFD (personal floatation device) aka a life jacket. Not a huge purchase (about $100) but one I had put off long enough. I've been relying on boat owners to provide one for me if necessary, ie rough seas, etc. A life jacket. Think about that. Life. Jacket. I read something shocking (and relevant to job searching and networking...bear with me 😀) in the safety literature that came with the PFD: "In over 80% of boating fatalities the person was not wearing floatation". 80%!! Imagine those last moments as the person drowned..."aw crap...I should have put on that stupid, clunky, uncomfortable life jacket!". 😨 We have to get out of our comfy zone! We have to stop procrastinating! We have to do the work to see the results!! And if you need help...you gotta ask for help! Don't let your ego prolong your job search!! I love my new PFD. I tried on a few models/brands at the store. This one is perfect! And I love wearing it around the house...not only does my wife roll her eyes at me...my kids laugh out loud 😀 #BePrepared #KeepPressingForward #AlwaysBeNetworking #UpdateYourLinkedInProfile #Engage #Pivot

This morning is glorious at home. It is one of these days I want to be in the mountains. Bright crisp orange low sun, low temperatures, snow on the tops. This is the season those who like the mountains need to start thinking about their winter skills. Winter in the mountains, especially in the dry are an unbeatable experience, IF you have the knowledge and the equipment to be prepared for what you may face. Many moons ago I was a member of a Scottish Mountain Rescue Team. Back then the teams were not as busy as they are now, for whatever reason. Most of my mountain rescue gear was handed back. I got to keep my Buffalo jacket (we paid for these ourselves, and lets face it, who wants a well used one?). It has not seen much daylight for the last two decades and rather crumpled. Am I saying don't venture into the hills? Absolutely not! I am saying, follow The Scouts adage - 'BE PREPARED'. THe conditions can change rapidly. There are many good low cost courses to learn #navigation and #WinterSkills and there are loads of helpful resources to help you prepare. For example Mountaineering Scotland and the MOUNTAIN WEATHER INFORMATION SERVICE - see links in comments. The point the Mountaineering Scotland make is the importance of self reliance - if you take to the hills, especially in winter, have a read. Lets hope with winter season means more #MountainRescue Jackets stay in their rucksacks. #BePrepared, #StaySafe and #Enjoy the #outdoors

🕛 I really despise the whole changing of the clocks thing... Anyone else? 🏜 We were camping in Moab, UT, this weekend, and we didn't have any service at our campsite. The entire group of us was so confused as to what time it *really* was when we woke up yesterday morning. It finally took turning on a car we knew had a manual clock to figure it out. 👉 How do you cope with the time changes? Any secrets you wish to share? #life #careercoach #bigthoughts #careercoach
