The St. Mary’s Young Professionals (SMYP) brought together nearly 70 people last night for a relaxing evening along the water that included 2 sunset cruises with Captain Phil from Fish the Bay Charters, backyard games, networking, and great food from St. James Deli!
Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the great weather, and a special thanks to Captain Phil Langley for the tranquil boat cruises and for sharing his vast knowledge of the Chesapeake Bay!
So, so proud of the amazing job you all are doing bringing the young professionals in St. Mary’s County together! What a gorgeous night for the event, too!

Embracing the Power of Teamwork: Lessons from a Majestic Pelican Formation
At the heart of bustling London, amidst the serene beauty of St. James Park, I recently had the privilege of witnessing a remarkable gathering that left an enduring impression on my understanding of teamwork and collaboration. A congregation of pelicans, gracefully navigating the tranquil waters of the park’s lake, offered profound insights into the power of unity and diversity.
Reflecting on this captivating scene, I was reminded of the timeless wisdom that nature imparts about the importance of working together towards a common purpose. Just as the pelicans rely on each other for companionship and safety, so too do we thrive when we join forces and collaborate towards shared goals.
In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, where challenges often require collective effort to overcome, the lessons of the pelican gathering resonate more strongly than ever. By embracing the principles of unity, cooperation, and mutual support, we can navigate the complexities of life with greater resilience and effectiveness.
The pelican gathering serves as a powerful reminder that strength lies in unity. When individuals come together with a shared vision and a willingness to support one another, remarkable things can be accomplished. By harnessing the strength of our collective

We recently had the great pleasure of gathering in Jamaica to celebrate our co-founder Amanda Feilding’s birthday and the 25th anniversary of The Beckley Foundation. We were thrilled to be joined by her family and friends, including the legendary Paul Stamets.
We’re incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm we’ve received for what we’re building at Beckley Retreats — and we’re just getting started.

1. Christ must be at the foundation of all that I do.
2. Partnerships are relational, not transactional.
3. Integrity goes a long way.
4. Be a team player.
5. Explore new ways to do old things.
6. Embrace change and remain encouraged.

It’s incredible how a simple practice of acknowledging three things we’re grateful for can transform our mindset 💭
Whether simply thinking about 3 things we are grateful for, or jotting them down, the impact is profound.
We all prefer different methods—I adore my gratitude jar!
This also works well for teams - at the start of a training session, I always ask “what are you grateful for” it’s amazing what comes up and how the mood of the room changes 💖
What’s your go-to gratitude practice?
