Interesting drone sale pitch. The challenge for tomorrows Air Force is relevance. Space layer, gone to Soace Force. No ground capacity. SOF air is a real thing, but can be augmented. And the last great air engagement was on a balloon the size of a football stadium traveling at 15 kts. What is the mission of the Air Force, and how do these drones with drones provide air dominance in preparation for a massed ground attack or occupation? How do these capabilities not just create masses of aircraft, manned and unmanned, but generate true air power that the Air Force is congressionallybstoof up to provide? The Navy has established Unmanned Surface Vessel Squadron Three (USVRON Three) at Naval Base San Diego, under Capt. Derek Rader, to integrate small maritime drones into its forces. This squadron, part of the Navy’s effort to create a hybrid fleet of manned and unmanned systems, will oversee uncrewed surface vessels like the Global Autonomous Reconnaissance Craft (GARC). USVRON Three's formation follows the recent creation of a “robotics warfare specialist” rating by Adm. Lisa Franchetti to advance Robotic and Autonomous System (RAS) operations. Vice Adm. Brendan McLane emphasized the importance of integrating these systems, placing them in the hands of skilled warfighters. This initiative aligns with the Pentagon's Replicator project, aiming to field thousands of autonomous systems by 2025 to counter China's military expansion, with substantial funding secured for the effort. The Navy is partnering with the Defense Innovation Unit to pursue various unmanned surface vessels and refine tactics and training for their deployment.
