🎙 Pregnancy Loss Research Group (PLRG), INFANT Postdoctoral Researcher Marita Hennessy joins Maeve McCafferty on #TeacherTalk with the INTO, focusing on the fight for paid reproductive health leave. The episode explores reproductive health through the lens of a primary teacher in Ireland’s education system and Marita shares findings from the #PLACES (Pregnancy Loss in Workplaces: Informing policymakers on support mechanisms) project. 📰 The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth commissioned this project to examine the workplace experiences of people coping with pregnancy loss. Informed by international best practice, the project put forward recommendations for formal or informal support mechanisms that could be introduced in the workplace to better support working people experiencing pregnancy loss. Support mechanisms may include the provision of leave, flexible working arrangements, or other workplace policies. These recommendations, in turn, will help to inform Government policy, including the development of legislation if required. The new federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) went into effect on July 27. The law requires companies with at least 15 employees to provide reasonable accommodations to a worker’s limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions. The new law builds upon existing protections against pregnancy discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The PWFA works together with the new PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (PUMP Act), which expanded the universe of workers who have the right to break time and a private space to express breast milk at work. Male involvement in family planning is key for healthier families and communities. It boosts contraceptive uptake, improves outcomes, and promotes gender equity. Watch the accompanying video to hear some men speak on their involvement in family planning and the positive impact it has had on their families. Kindly follow our company page DKT Nigeria for more insights and updates. #maleinvolvementinfp #familyplanning #maleinvolvement #partneringforfamilyplanning #breakinggendernorms #dkt #dktnigeria #exploringbeyondborders
Men play a crucial role in family planning decision-making and in achieving universal access to comprehensive family planning services. Research demonstrates a strong association between male involvement and higher contraceptive uptake and utilization. When men actively engage in family planning discussions, support their partner's contraceptive choices (whether short-acting or long-acting contraceptive methods), and utilize family planning methods themselves, it leads to more effective pregnancy prevention and improved family planning outcomes. By encouraging more men to take on roles as clients, partners, and advocates for positive change, we can advance gender equity, enhance contraceptive utilization, and foster healthier families and communities, paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive environment where both genders have a say in shaping their reproductive destinies. The accompanying short video provides a glimpse into the positive impact of male involvement in contraceptive decision-making within relationships. #maleinvolvementinfp #familyplanning #maleinvolvement #partneringforfamilyplanning #breakinggendernorms #dkt #dktnigeria #exploringbeyondborders
