Google will now let you perform a “web” search. It’s rolling out “web” searches now, and in early tests on desktop, it’s looking like it could be an incredibly popular change to Google’s search engine. “Web” is just a filter that removes Google’s knowledge panels and featured snippets and Shopping modules https://lnkd.in/ezD4n7aZ

Search is Fragmenting, and That's a Good Thing (Probably) Remember how Google used to be the only place you went to find stuff online? Best laptop deals 2019, Nearest coffee shop open now, What is the capital of France? Yeah, those days are gone. The most recent article by Grace Carney at Union Square Ventures is about how new large language model search engines are changing the game, and how traditional search engines might need to adapt or die. (https://lnkd.in/esX2n-Dt) Grace argues that these new search engines are better at understanding what you actually want when you search for something, rather than just throwing a bunch of links at you and hoping you'll sort through the mess. This is good for users, but it could spell trouble for Google's advertising business model. The article also explores a few solutions, like search engines that focus on user privacy (DuckDuckGo) or use cryptocurrencies instead of ads. It's all a bit speculative, but one thing's for sure: the way we search for information is changing, and that's exciting. And more importantly, there will be more and more opportunities here! So, is the fragmentation of search a bad thing? Not necessarily. It could lead to a more innovative and user-friendly search experience which would be good for most everyone. But it's definitely going to shake things up, and that's something to keep an eye on.

Google changes your search to the most profitable "search query" for them! For example, I search: "Adidas shoes" and the result shown is for "Nike shoes" (but you won't know because the search window will show "Adidas shoes" It's called "Semantic matching". In an ongoing antitrust case against Google, a key exhibit revealed the extent of Google's efforts to boost profits, including an internal project called Project Mercury and manipulations to its search algorithm to generate more commercial results. Google secretly alters user queries to generate more revenue, substituting original queries with ones that benefit the company financially, even if it doesn't align with what the user intended to search for. These manipulations harm users and drive up advertiser expenses, while Google maintains its dominant market share. In the last few weeks, I have been experimenting with different web search platforms. I wanted to replace Google as my default search engine. Read below if you want to do so, or at least want to see how far I have come. A bit of reasoning as to why I am interested in doing so. I carefully considered why I wanted to replace Google as my default search provider and shockingly found that: ⭕️ Google works with the Isral*e govt. and military to invest in and research military and AI tools. These technologies are now used to inflict genocide on Gazzan in real time. ⭕️ They actually invest lots and lots of money to do so, in the form of buying mobile / PC web browser search spots or mobile OS search spots. Also attaching the OSS realm by funding them, creating Chorme, the best browser till now, and so many other ways. To become a monopoly and attract advertisers, as it's the biggest advertising firm in the world. ⭕️ It is one of the favorite tools for donors, advertisers, and government organizations to control whatever they want to. Therefore, I am not even sure whether the results I am seeing are mathematically organic or based on some donor's choice. Therefore, as part of my ongoing personal #bdsmovement I started digging into Google influence in my life. To my surprise, I found that my daily life is way more entangled with Google searches than I initially thought. My personal, professional, and job spaces are full of Google. I have an undeniable dependency graph. I am still on my way to dig around more and more every day. But here are the search engines I tried and settled upon. 1️⃣ Duckduckgo: https://duckduckgo.com 2️⃣ StartPage: https://www.startpage.com/ 3️⃣ Brave Search: https://search.brave.com/ #️⃣ Searx: https://searx.space/ [Metasearch; find one from here, based on response time] I mostly use DuckDuckGo and StartPage in combination. The caveat is that I am doing the same search on multiple platforms to find a good result. That takes "double time" now. But this "double time" I am willing to put in as an investment. I can't even trust the results I see in Google searches anymore. When I search for the same key phrase, these search engines produce some results that are not available on Google. Try "Google Israel Military Tech" and see for yourself. I understand these results are based on many factors, but this is the very same reason one shouldn't trust Google search in the first place. --- I am from Bangladesh. I am from a genocide-surviving nation. In 1971, on March 25, the Pakistan Army started a brutal genocide on innocent civilians in East Pakistan. On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh (former East Pakistan) became independent from that bloody genocide and from that occupying force. We Bangaldeshis exactly know what the Gazzan / Philistine people are going through. I will always stand in solidarity with them.

Google is experimenting with a way for users to create and read Notes that contain tips from other people when searching for an article or topic. The feature is a response to the popularity of people adding ‘Reddit’ to their search queries for more human results. Users can like, share, save, or report Notes.
