Dear employers, If you have to layoff employees for some unfortunate reasons, make sure you make them understand why this measure is necessary. Also help the employees with necessary resources that can help them cope up with the situation. For example: Airbnb announced that it was laying off 25% of its workforce due to the impact of COVID-19 on the travel industry. The company's CEO, Brian Chesky, was transparent about the reasons for the decision and communicated the news to employees as soon as possible. Additionally, he provided employees with resources to help them navigate the transition, such as career coaching, CV/resume writing assistance, and a talent directory for recruiters. As an HR professional you must always look at each case individually

Yesterday I spoke to somebody who had 4 jobs over 5 years. What a job hopper... Is what some people may think. But here's the reality - and why you should stop judging people on their lengths of employment! 🛑 Job no. 1: She started this at the end of 2019 and was let go when COVID hit due to typical ‘last in, first out’ mentality. Enough said. Job no 2: This was a maternity leave cover that she secured just one month later – and let’s face it, you grab this opportunity when the world is falling apart. But naturally this always had an end date 🕒 Job no 3: She accepted a role that was advertised as remote. Quickly this turned into needing to travel to the office once a week; the office was in London and she lived in Liverpool but she still did this. This ‘remote’ role then turned into having to go to the office a minimum of 3 times a week. With no increases to her pay this made commuting costs virtually impossible to live on (I mean, it’s cheaper to fly to a different country than it is to get a train to London from most parts of the UK!) 🤦♀️ Job no 4: After securing a role at a more local company, she was then let go in a wave of redundancies just 5 months later (which is just idiotic strategy and planning for any company in my humble opinion) 🤨 My point is, this ‘job hopper’ turned out to be one of the most resilient, dedicated and loyal candidates I have spoken to, and any company would be lucky to have her. ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ is a saying for a reason guys. (Unless you’re buying a book for your non-stop toddler and it’s one of those music books that your daughter seems to make it her mission to press so many times until the point of breakage… yeah, you can judge those!) 😅📚 #recruitment #recruiterlife #hiring #opportunities

Fantastic post and something I feel extremely strongly about....(having spent a decade in recruitment and dealt with this on many, many occasions). I used to hate it when the hiring manager would refuse to interview a candidate because they made a #biased presumption on #jobhopping Even when I explained the candidates career change/breaks, they had already made up their mind as the #prejudice had already reared it's ugly head. Any managers who are hiring, please take note of this post. You honestly do not know someone's reason for leaving an organisation, nor their journey nor should it matter. I lost two high paying jobs I was QUALIFIED for because of my location The Impact of Location on Opportunity 🌍 It's no secret that opportunity often knocks on the door of those who find themselves in the right place at the right time. But what happens when you're brimming with competence, ambition, and a thirst for success, yet location seems to hold the key to the kingdom? Two Doors That Swung Shut I've experienced this firsthand. I've got interviewed for two high-paying jobs ($60,000 and $75,000) where competence was never in question. But despite being armed with the skills and passion for what I do, I saw those doors swing shut, not because of my abilities but because of my geographical coordinates. Well, here I'm here to rant about is, Competence Knows No Bounds These experiences have underlined a vital lesson: Competence knows no bounds. It doesn't reside exclusively in one city, one country, or one time zone. It's a universal currency that transcends the limits of location. In the face of location-related challenges, the best thing we can do is to remain resilient. We must be proactive in seeking opportunities beyond our physical boundaries. Remote work, virtual networking, and leveraging digital platforms are essential tools in this quest. A call to HR, Recruiters and Companies at large We're fortunate to live in an age where we can build a global network with a few clicks. LinkedIn and other platforms are incredible bridges that can connect us with opportunities, mentors, and collaborators worldwide. My experiences have inspired me to join the movement of location-agnostic professionals. I believe that competence should be the ultimate passport to success. I'm determined not to let geography be a barrier. I'll keep knocking on doors, no matter where they're located. "I won't work in that part of Hemel as I don't like driving around the magic roundabout" You might have heard about one of Hemel Hempstead's famous landmarks - the Magic Roundabout? It looks far more daunting than what it actually is - basically a series of small roundabouts! There's nothing magic about it. But we have previously worked with a candidate who ruled out working for all of the great employers on one side of the town because of it. And over the years have worked with many candidates who just won't work outside of their home town! Yes, there will always be candidates who have commitments that mean working somewhere further afield just won't work. But by restricting yourself to just one location rules out so many opportunities. Imagine if your perfect employer worked one town across! And with most companies offering some form of hybrid working there wouldn't even be a need to commute there 5 days a week. Being so restrictive in your job search criteria could really damage your career prospects. Likewise having set, immovable criteria for what you expect from your next role will likely mean missing out on opportunities that otherwise would come your way and you may not have considered. Yes, have a set of job search requirements, some of which will be essential and non-negotiable. But keep an open mind. Consider what could be available to enhance your career that otherwise wouldn't be open to you. Don't let a magic roundabout or an extra 10-15 minutes on your commute stop you from finding your dream job and employer! #recruitment #jobs #careers
