This bipartisan legislation is much needed to cut the red tape that has long hindered the efficiency of physical therapy care delivery. By streamlining the bureaucratic processes surrounding plan of care certification requirements, the bill aims to alleviate the burdensome administrative tasks that often consume valuable time and resources for both physical therapists and referring physicians. This initiative not only reduces the administrative burden on healthcare providers but also ensures that patients receive timely and uninterrupted care without unnecessary delays caused by paperwork hurdles. Overall, the legislation represents a significant step towards improving the overall effectiveness and accessibility of healthcare services, allowing PTs to focus more on delivering high-quality care to their patients. #cuttheredtape #healthcarelegislation #patientcare #physicaltherapists #apta #medicarebilling

Prime example of Red Tape in Healthcare A critical aspect of our healthcare often goes unnoticed: the administrative hurdles imposed on clinicians that eventually impact patient care and reimbursements. Currently, if a patient is referred to physical therapy by their physician, Physical Therapists (PTs) are required to send their treatment plans to the referring physicians for sign-off. If the physician doesn't sign off within 30 days, the onus falls on the PT to obtain it. Failure to do so can result in delayed payments from Medicare and interruptions in patient care. The "Reduce Duplicative Unnecessary Clerical Exchanges" (REDUCE) Act aims to eliminate such unnecessary bureaucratic steps. Under the new Act, the plan of care certification requirement will be considered fulfilled as long as the PT submits the plan of care to the referring provider. This change will eliminate the hassle of PTs chasing physicians for their signatures, reducing the workload for physical therapists and the responsibilities for referring physicians. It's a welcome change. Kudos to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) for advocating policy changes that prioritize patient care and support the vital work of physical therapists. Outpatient medical coder. Continuously adapting and self-educating for better, more efficient and accurate coding and reimbursement.
Difference between Physician E/M leveling and facility E/M leveling 🤷♀️ who knew? https://lnkd.in/ey3pd32E We can code E/M for facility Fees using the same codes for physicians outpatient codes 99212-99215. As long as there is documentation to support it and the hospital strictly sticks to how they are using the codes based of certain E/M selection tools they have created. Looks like this company figured it out. https://lnkd.in/ewCmMgTG Trying to find the additional info from cms and AMA but haven’t found it yet… I found this though! https://lnkd.in/ensMWBk8 Which states that there is no national standard for hospital assignment of E/M code levels for outpatient services in clinics and the ED department. CMS requires each hospital to establish its own facility billing guidelines but CMS has a list of 11 criteria that must be met for facility billing guidelines.
